Easy Spring and Summer Wreaths

May 22, 2015

Spring is here and summer is right around the corner.

It's time to lighten up the look and welcome the warm weather with some fun decor for your front door or entryway. No time, you say?

Well, I have a few super simple wreaths that can be whipped up in minutes.

Easy Spring and Summer wreaths DIY

A couple of them are constructed from scratch, a couple are reworked ~ updated with a new look for pennies.

Let's have a look, shall we?

Easy DIY Spring and Summer Wreath Ideas

Red Hydrangea Wreath

This one is my favorite. Gee.

I wonder if you can guess why?

How To Make A Hydrangea Wreath

It makes a super bold statement, it is easy to construct and with a few coupons it came in at a price far less than a catalog would charge. Oh yeah...and it's red!
Of course, yours can be any color!

Summer Letter Wreath Re-Do

This is one of those fun do-overs I was talking about.

Summer Floral and Twig Wreath

Breathe new life into an older wreath by adding a few painted wooden letters to it.

I chose the word summer...or scummer (sometimes you need to get creative people!)...but I could add virtually any word I wanted to create a personalized accessory.

Enhancing A Wreath

This is another wreath makeover.

I bought this beauty for a song, but she needed a little work.

I added a few bargain flowers to fill in her bare spots and a colorful ribbon for sparkle.

Red and Pink Floral Wreath

So don't turn away from that bedraggled clearance or off season wreath.

Even if the base colors are not your cup of tea, adding more of what you want and removing a few duds can be truly transformative!

Patriotic Ribbon Wreath

Memorial Day and July 4th are the traditional harbingers of summer, so add some fireworks to your front door with this super easy ribbon wreath.

Red White and Blue Wreath

Hot glue, ribbon and a wreath frame set the stage for a giant bow to pop.

This one can be whipped up in a jiffy and looks good all season long...especially if you forget to change it out after Memorial Day and it stays on your door until Labor Day.

But who would do that?

Ahem.

Certainly not us.

What's on your front door?

Oops...almost forgot about my tulip filled rain boot!

I used a kid's boot and stuffed it with faux dollar store tulips. A bright bow finished the project off in style!

You can check out my article in Parade Magazine for the full tutorial.

  1. Hello friend! I love all of the wreaths but really love the hydrangea wreath (it's so you!). I would love to make the patriotic wreath for the 4th of July. Thanks for these wonderful ideas for a pretty wreath. I still have the spring wreath I made on my back kitchen door! Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Hi Julie! I like that hydrangea one, too. It is me!! The red, white and blue one was super easy. You're so crafty you could have it complete by lunchtime. Enjoy the sun!

  2. Kim, they are all pretty and fun, but I love your red one! This week, we have been making wreaths too in our down time. I don't have anything on my front door right now, because it needs to be repainted. The usual paint guy wasn't there, now the formulas don't match, so I have to wait until the right guy comes in to fix it. Have a wonderful weekend. xoxo Su

    1. My front door needs to painted, too, Su. I just cannot decide on a color…so I just cover it up with wreaths until I decide what to do! I hope your paint dilemma is cleared up quickly and you enjoy your long weekend!

  5. Kim - they are all lovely.

Why should a wreath be just for Christmas, a Wedding or special occasion. Perhaps we should make every day a special occasion with a beautiful wreath at our door?

I particularly like your red one, it is stunning.

    Have a lovely weekend

    All the best Jan

    1. I like those letters, too, Jen. They are cheap and I could write anything I want on a wreath...like I love ice cream! ;) Not sure it would make much sense on my front door, but I could!

  7. I always enjoy your posts, because I get to see the bright red header right away! All great, Kim, but ya know I love the red one best!

    1. Thanks Cheryl! You know when I started blogging I was told to stay away from the red, or tone it down, nobody is going to read you with that blaring header, people don’t like red. Well, I like it and I’m glad I stuck with it! Thanks for letting me know that you do, too!

  8. I love them all and it is hard to pick a favorite. The red hydrangea looks so beautiful in your kitchen (yes, I read the older post), but the "scummer" one is adorable and I love the patriotic wreath! The colorful floral enhanced wreath looks perfect for spring, as does the rain boot (yes, I know you didn't mention it, but I love it)! So many choices....all so beautiful! How about you make one for me...just surprise me! LOL Hugs!!

  10. Love them all Kim, especially the hydrangea wreath. I've never been into wreaths, but I made one for spring and I really enjoyed it so I'll try my hand at making more. I love the idea of a patriotic wreath...that may be next on the list. Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!

  16. I think I'd be called a Plain Jane for my front entrance. Nothing on the door, no wreaths in sight!
I do have a pretty wall like window box to the left of the front with Illuminating Begonias, ferns and vines.

  24. I just love that sweet boot! We can't have anything on our outside doors as we live on an island and the ocean breezes would blow it up and away...but we could put something on the door to the porch.

    1. Yes, we live close to the water, too, and the elements do a number on the outdoor decor. I usually put the wreaths in between the storm door and the front door…but it gets hot in there and things tend to melt! Ah, no perfect solution, but perhaps you would agree that it’s worth the price to live in such an amazing place! :)

  25. Great ideas, Kim! Our front door has no overhang to speak of, so any wreaths I've ever used were worn out by the weather in no time (east-facing door). I should probably do lots of bits of nature to keep it looking fresh. Twigs and things. Only, not right now. lol

    1. I get it Kimberly, I have no overhang either and a full sun exposure all day long. The elements ravage my wreaths. I keep them tucked between the storm and steel doors.
