Let's Go Back In Time

People inspire you or they drain you, pick wisely

When I first started blogging, I had exactly five fans and I was related to all of them. In the three years since, my audience has grown just a little bit bigger and I have written over 300 posts.

Of course, some of those pieces have only been seen by the original five, of whom, no one could figure out how to comment!!

I recently reread one of my earliest entries and it still resonates with me, so I decided to share it with you today. It is entitled Decorating Beyond The Tissue Box...because some things are more important that decor.

I hope you enjoy it!

  1. Great post and so very true!! I am quite picky now who I bring into my close circle because I have had some toxic relationships. The simple saying I live by is "if after every time you hang up the phone after talking to a certain person and you are agitated, or upset or mad, you probably don't need them as a friend!". You don't have to have those kind of people in your life. Beth Moore said it best and wrote a book on it..."Get Out of The Pit"!

  3. Great quote and so true. I have found, as I age, that I am more cautious of friendships. The negative ones can bring you down so quickly. So, I'll stay with the more positive ones,

  4. Hi Kim, this is a great quote and so try. I enjoyed going back and reading your old post. We do need to be more picky of who we choose to be our friends.
    Enjoy the week.

  7. Great quote . . . one to "listen and remember."
Excellent earlier post as well . . .
Toxic is subtle and disingenuous and doesn't sit well with what I call FRIEND . . .

  8. Hi Kim. Love the quote. Your advice is so true. I feel very fortunate that I don't have any "draining" friends around me. I do have one, whom I love, and get along with very well, in person, however, she drains me when talking on the telephone. My rudeness just constitutes not answering the phone! Have a great week..xxo Judy

    1. Yes. The telephone chatter can be draining!! I remember it well when the kids were young. Lucky for me, most of my friends just text today. It’s rare that I get an actual phone call. I can’t say that I mind!! : )

I pinned the quote! Thank You!!
I like, Cindy commented, cut loose a friendship as well, back in 2012. Stress and DRAMA...it was hard to cut loose, but today in year 2016 I am so happy I did!

  11. I enjoyed the former post very much, Kim. It is good advice that I should have known about decades ago. Thankfully now there is not one person in my life that is not an absolute blessing. Isn't that an amazing thing to be able to say? And your old post just now made me realize it! Thank you so much!

  12. When I was younger I was so eternally optimistic that I didn't see other's shortcomings. I learned the hard way. A great quote that I'm bookmarking. Thanks

  15. For many people, friends are simply a convenience, so not really a 'friend' at all. I think for many, as we get older, this concept of not allowing toxic people in our lives becomes crystal clear, and easier to implement. You are wise behind your years Kim.

  16. Good Afternoon Kim,
Such a fantastic post and it really resonates with so many of us.
We moved so much in our early years and being eager to have friends for myself and the children we picked up with some high maintenance friends. Looking back it seems a bit comical, but at the time is was very stressful.
I have two tried and true friends and I cherish them both.
I totally agree with Doreen, you are wise for your young age.
