Floral Banner For Summer

Oh summer...what a perfect time for a banner! Well, actually if you know me at all, then you know I think that anytime is the perfect time for a banner. There's something super whimsical and charming about them and I just love what they add to a room, especially if there are flowers involved.

Especially in summer.

And this one was super easy to make.

Fabulous.

I found a pack of banner paper in the 70% off bin at the craft store and drew a very basic flower on each one.

Like kindergarten basic.

I did it freehand, but you could print out a flower you like and transfer it on to the banner paper it you prefer.

Next, I used craft paint and a brush to add color. I could've used markers or decoupaged fabric, scrapbook paper or wallpaper on the petals instead, depending on what I wanted my flowers to look like.

Since the Black Eyed Susans outside my kitchen window were my muse, paint was the best option for me.

Now, truth be told, I just hung this one up again today, but I made it about a year ago for my friend's blog, The Kim Six Fix. You can pop on over there if you'd like to see the full tutorial.

In the meantime, I'll be hanging out in my kitchen, gazing at my hand painted summer banner.

And all those flowers.

Fresh, until I take them down.

How awesome is that?

  5. I haven't made a banner yet...can you believe NEVER? I'm filing away all these cute ideas like yours, although for me, it would have to be a transfer image...I'm hopeless at any kind of drawing or freehand. LOVE those Black-Eyed Susans! One of my favorite Summer plants!

  12. Cute banner! I also wanted to comment on your newest post - the one with the video - but I didn't see a comment area. I have no other clues except cupcake holder on your mystery silver thrift store find! Maybe someone donated it because it didn't hold the cupcakes well? Hope you're having a great weekend!

  15. Hey Kim, I wanted to comment on your recent thrift store post, but for some reason I don't see a place where I can do that. Another weird thing is I commented on this post a while back but I don't see it! Am I banned? lol

Anyway, loved your video, and I think that item is definitely a muffin holder. Maybe for big muffins, but muffins nonetheless.

  16. I love your hand-painted flowers! Great job on the petals, I've tried petal painting before and it takes a steady hand...too much pressure on the brush and a petal tip turns into a blob. The splash of yellow is so appropriate for summer. :)
