Let The Shopping Begin!

Shopping from home is the best and when you find a retailer you love, it's even better!

I love old sayings. I think it's because I was raised on them. My mom was the undisputed queen of dishing them out.

Growing up, virtually every life lesson came wrapped up and delivered in one of these tidy little packages.

Simple words to illustrate her points, but the older I got, the more I realized how true they were. That's clearly why they've stood the test of time.

Take one of my favorites, what goes around comes around. I was thinking about it recently in relation to holiday gift giving. I was making lists, feeling nostalgic and reminiscing when it hit me.

In the old days, we used to buy everything from a catalog. We shopped from home, cuddled up on the couch. We circled things and folded pages with excitement and then they magically appeared at the front door, no fuss, no muss.

Then the age of mall shopping dominated. We braved the cold, shopped til we dropped and carried it all home. Exhausted. We fought the crowds, the parking and the lines, because mail order shopping was considered outdated or old fashioned.

And yet, a few years later, here we are again, back on the couch, snug and warm, shopping from home. Fabulous. Just like the catalog days...only better.

Now, I don't have to choose items from the one or two books that show up in my mailbox. I can grab my laptop and spend time at any online shop I desire.

This is one of my favorites. Jane.com. Every now and then, I shout out an item from their store on my Facebook page and people go wild.

What is this store? Love this shop, thanks for sharing! How did I not know about this? These are actual comments I've received, so I'm always happy to show off their pretties.

But then I realized that not everyone's on social media, so I decided to share a few of their gift items here as we enter the holiday shopping season and we #getreadytobow.

I started by looking at their gifts for women. I mean after all, that's who I'm shopping for...well, mostly. It's a dangerous prospect though, since there are so many cute things, and let's face it, I am a woman.

So yes, I confess, I ended up shopping for myself along the way.

For example, something about this checked kimono poncho was too hard to resist, especially for the price and free shipping.

There were a lot of great sweaters in my size, too. Very relevant, since it's getting cold here.

As my own list grew, I tried to focus on the fact that I was there to buy for others and I moved on to check out gift ideas for my extended family and husband - since they literally have something for everyone from toys and electronics to jewelry, beauty products and home decor.

That's my favorite kind of shopping, of course...and what I got distracted by during the second leg of my quest for presents.

This adorable cake tin would coordinate perfectly with my bread tin and let's face it, cake is way better than bread. I needed it.

I also decided I needed a few of these festive Christmas prints. I have so many frames around my house, like the new ones I put in my bathroom, that are calling for a holiday swap.

This cow was really tugging at my heart, too. Plus, I thought I could use that one year round. Anyone else feeling it?

In the end, my virtual shopping trip wasn't all about me. I did manage to find a few treasures for others. I have six great nieces who would go crazy for these talking hide and seek unicorns and puppies.

Find Me Friends

I mean when you're little, what could be better than a stuffed animal who talks and plays a game with you?! Impossible to resist.

Plus, when you're done playing hide and seek, they could be on your team for the indoor snowball fight...

...a real treat for the littles in Florida. Frankly, I wish that's what snow looked like here. Oh well.

On Christmas morning, snow or no snow, I'll be the greatest great aunt for sure.

And I didn't even have to leave the house to do it.

Because let's face it, there's no place like home.

Old saying.

I know.

Have you started shopping yet?

  1. I love this Kim. I love shopping from home too and these are great ideas. Beats going out in the cold and dealing with the crowds. Going to check these out now. Have a great start to the new week.

    1. Totally beats the cold, Kris…and not that snow has been dropping in some parts of the country, I’m really not into going outside!!

  2. Hi Kim,
I had to come back and tell you I have been shopping on Jane. What a wonderful site. I have found some great gifts. This site has so many unique and very reasonable things. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Oh yay!! I’m so glad I shared!! It’s a dangerous little site, it becomes very addictive, very quickly. ☺️

  3. Such great ideas! I am with Kris above, I shop right from my computer! Have a great week :)

    1. Thanks Christina! And I agree, nothing better than clicking for Christmas! 😉

  4. I have only one more thing to get and I am done with my shopping. I miss those catalogs. I loved getting JC Pennys and Hubby love seeing the Sears tool section. Those were the days.

    1. We used to circle away in both those books, Betty…with Mitch Miller singing in the background. Fun days!

  5. Get the cow, get the cow!!!!!! And the pretty little red truck and the cookie tin!!!!

    1. Isn't she just the best? I am smitten for sure...

  6. Hi Kim, I love shopping in stores and online. I checked out this website and I like it a lot. I bought about 6 presents already. I have my list made out too. In the next few weeks we all have so much to do and thanks for sharing this awesome website.

  7. Well, I am convinced. I am going to see all about it. I am a horrible gift giver. I always second guess if I'm getting the right thing, BUT I sure know how to shop for myself..Love those prints, may be my downfall..Happy Monday..xxoJudy

  8. Hi Kim,

I thought I knew almost every online shop. I will have to check this out.

I remember the days of trying to get to the mall to get a great parking space. I remember the days of hoping we were close enough so we were able to get inside quickly without our coats. This way we wouldn't sweat our brains out.

I do miss having a catalog in my hand though.

    Thanks for sharing

  9. I love Jane! I shop from them all year long and tuck gifts away. Such a fun way to shop!

  10. I had to sign up to let me know when those beautiful prints were back in stock! They are a great idea for teacher gifts :)

  11. My daughter-in-law has been asking me to send links to our wish list.....she loves Christmas giving. I got her to send some links to me as well...the first time she's done that for me (she's been married 6 yrs).

The cow print would work year round. It is adorable. Though honestly I haven't had much desire to use up my precious wall space with a cow print. ;) A few years ago I bought a Christmas bag & framed it. There are so many gorgeous bags. I bought it at the Dollar Tree & put it in a giant thrift store frame. It looks like an expensive print.

  12. Yes, I have started my Christmas shopping. I like to have it all done by Thanksgiving...YES! Thanksgiving!!!
Our relatives and friends don't live near us so when we visit them (on Thanksgiving or somewhere in between) we just hand them out.
We shop catalog, phone and TV! We only go to the malls to watch others in a panic.

  13. I'll have to check out jane.com. I've never heard of it. Buy one thing from a catalog & you suddenly start getting catalogs out the yazoo. Unfortunately, I don't really have anyone to buy for...boo hoo. Except my husband, but as we've aged, we want less & less.

  14. Hi Kim,
I too shop from home, I am thankful for these ideas you have shared.
I also put on the Charlie Brown Christmas music the other day.. could not help it, it was snowing.
    Love Ya!

  15. Oh su cte gifts darling
    Great ideas
    thanks for share

  16. Yes, I have started Christmas shopping.
I tend to do a mix of online and from our local shops.

    All the best Jan
