Oh for colors again. Green, yellow, white. Not a fan of black appliances. New almond appliances came in the house in 1989. Luckily when my frig died I was able to find a Bisque one. Now it is dying too. Searching now. Expensive food spoilage is so much fun, Grrrrr.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072740790042271296.post-49332812232772705752024-01-15T12:27:04.154-05:002024-01-15T12:27:04.154-05:00Just this past week I had to replace a dishwasher ...Just this past week I had to replace a dishwasher that was 19 1/2 years old and it was not a top of the line Whirlpool. I guess I was lucky. My preferred color is also Bisque, but because my fridge and range are of the same and I've repaired the fridge myself 3 times over the years, I caved. Knowing that Bisque has become all but obsolete, I switched to Black Stainless. I hate traditional stainless but the black stainless I can at least live with. Now torn as to buying all new now, or waiting until each one dies.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072740790042271296.post-87036662775767584172024-01-04T23:18:37.106-05:002024-01-04T23:18:37.106-05:00Oh no, Sue, I'm so sorry, how frustrating!! I appreciate you sharing your tale with us, unfortunately it's very common. I really thought that by now bisque would come back in style, but it just seems to be farther and farther away from returning. I recently looked for a stove and couldn't find one anywhere. I may have to the painted route myself. Ugh...I really hope those makers do notice the need soon. Maybe 2024 will be the year! I love my almond colored appliances. However, my 24 year old Maytag stove finally bit the dust. I also hate stainless steel appliances. I do not live in a MORGUE! Black appliances are too dark. My house is pastel colors mainly with white trim. I could go with white but then my almond appliances would look "dirty". I just need a front panel to the oven because it shattered when we were putting it back together after reattaching the handle. Ugh! They were never this unsightly and screaming white we have today.

I wished this group could market a line together. They are "outdated" bc the box stores will not put a matching line on the floor for customers to choose from. I am not a lover of white appliances or stainless either, but I did end up with stainless unfortunately. 23 yrs ago we updated our kitchen countertop from a tile with brown, gold and cream in it and brown grout. Very easy to look after. And we changed out our gold fridge, stove and dishwasher. And I got my lovely bisque appliances! I knew I did not want white as I could change the panel on my dishwasher, and I lived with that for about a month, and hated the starkness against my nice medium, warm wood tone cabinets. So bisque was perfect! New gas range, over range microwave, dishwasher and fridge. And a new laminate counter top that went perfect with wood and appliances. And I painted my backsplash in a lovely fall red! Life in this kitchen went on like this for 17 yrs. All our appliances were Maytag, and when the repairman said the dishwasher was not fixable, I went looking for another bisque one. Sorry, they don’t make this anymore ma’am! Since I was not having another colored appliance in my small kitchen, I went looking to replace all of them. Stainless was least offensive, so I changed everything out. But I had to change my beautiful red backsplash as it was too dark with the stainless. So I put up beadboard and painted it White Down! Maytag again was my choice, but stove didn’t work right from day one, and they finally replaced it. Last year my dishwasher needed to be repaired, thank goodness I bought extended warranty. And as for the interior of the refrigerator, they feel cheap and flimsy. So I’m not happy with my new stainless, and if I had it to do over, I think I would buy basic white and take them to an auto body shop and have them painted bisque! A neighbor did this almost 50 yrs ago as she wanted navy appliances, and she got them!😁😁😁. So this will likely be my solution when I move from this house. I want my bisque appliances, and I’ll get them somehow!
And it goes the same for biscuit colored toilets, sinks and tubs! You can still get them, but they usually need to be ordered and are way more expensive, especially here in Canada.
And if anyone wants a paint color that is pretty spot on for bisque appliances or biscuit toiletries, Benjamin Moore’s White Down is a good one.
Hopefully our appliance people sit up and take notice that not everyone likes the cool tones of white, black and stainless these days even if they are trendy. There are a lot of warm color lovers out there too! Glad to read about all the other bisque lovers out thereAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072740790042271296.post-64342950522352119122023-04-16T21:22:09.957-04:002023-04-16T21:22:09.957-04:00I just bought that same Whirlpool dishwasher since...I just bought that same Whirlpool dishwasher since our old one has been falling apart piece by piece for years and I wasn't able to find one that was decent or, more importantly, available. I wish the manufacturers would listen since we are the ones living in the houses, but as you said, not on the list of those who rank. I did happen to see a few more options but they were really, really expensive...I guess that may be a hint that they're coming back? The refrigerator lasted about 3 years and was replaced with almond. The dishwasher was also replaced with an almond model. 8 years ago, I "refreshed" the kitchen and used a wallpaper that really looks good with almond appliances. Unfortunately, I decided to replace the dishwasher even though it was still working fine. That's when I fell into appliance hell.

At one point, I went 18 months without a dishwasher because I couldn't face dealing with the non-options. I finally went with a "Tuscan Bronze" model from Samsung that developed problems after 27 months. Fortunately, I bought it from Costco with an extended warranty and they refunded my money after the first repair attempt failed. Now I'm in a 5 week delivery queue for a almond model from Whirlpool, which was the only one I could find with top level extras. I try not to think about what I'll do when my current refrigerator has to be replaced.

It's clear that pronouncements from designers and realtors are not the be all and end all when it comes to consumer preferences. Many of us do not want the institutional look of stainless steel and are not going that route. Why don't manufacturer's listen to the actual customer? I'm completely out of the loop and had no idea so many colors were discontinued during the pandemic. GE was one of the last to let the color go. I spoke with so many people, many of whom laughed, chided, scoffed, cringed, sighed, sometimes even getting offended that I would even ask. Several straight up said I'd never find one and to give up. I spoke with 4 people who were amazing and helpful, giving me insights into what had happened and their take on it, tips and advice as to where I should look next. One man even invited me to call back if I needed anymore free advice; just awesome people compared to the awful experience I was having collectively. Thankfully I found one a couple hours away in great shape, refurbished and obviously cheap because nobody wants it. Maybe I'm outdated, but I want something to match my antique white kitchen and it makes me happy. At the end of the day every fad is cyclical and I know farmhouse kitchens and cream colors will come back. It's only a matter of time before people admit that all this colorless, sterile, over-lighted crap and stainless steel is sucking the joy out of their cooking spaces.
Thanks for the laugh btw! It was cathartic to read someone else's story and find that I wasn't alone in this experience.Tori Mnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072740790042271296.post-63948559727824479942022-11-03T22:33:10.071-04:002022-11-03T22:33:10.071-04:00I too hate stainless, slate, black and all the &qu...I too hate stainless, slate, black and all the "in" colors.
