You know, those pesky resolutions we're all supposed to make.<br /><br />Every December, I'd sit down with an empty notebook and list all the ways I was going to create a brand new me.<br /><br />I filled it with bullet points and journal entries, color coded blank pages where I was going to record daily menu ideas, grateful thoughts and exercise plans.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="Exquisitely Unremarkable Journal" border="0" height="900" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOCFskJSS02kBBQ-X8fzlpLsHGMD242F_bBBGT54b0cuBFb4RR2NOcCE6Ia6BFWca-Lx2Qu5_husPv43lkvTg8uOtTVM7wiThWI8YJgcHZnv8dNmd9IKOpyN2v6LpbvKEXOFRTDkqbut3DrP5dBXBBgeWHHjR9AWSn68vmBZTzxQufNjhtkmkxBKCFHBQ/s16000/Exquisitely%20Unremarkable%20Journal.jpg" title="Exquisitely Unremarkable Journal" width="600" /><br /><br /></div>Of course, as I got older, and slightly wiser, that habit changed. It didn't really go away, instead it morphed into choosing a word or intention for the year.<br /><br />Then it was one for each month. <br /><br />I was still trying to better myself, I just had a much less organized plan of attack.<br /><br />All those lists and intentions, the ones that never came to fruition, just made me feel bad about myself and those unfed journals cluttered up my house.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="Journals on a table" border="0" height="900" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj76BNFu76CE5tzB2YfoxcLlgobaFK2kzG19uvcbmuEUdWaoyx9Bczz5OGccy5Sycx17Y6RWhuQyjouz9ybWM_B_9VTDuT2__knwYuQbhhXBUromMZqmJdkXHAET6mlaBxwWM8pKGP5RbBMBN0xObSL2zIWcvycxCEpwvpjtZvSaQwq4ypQ9RiSmt2-pCc/s16000/Journals%20.jpg" title="Journals" width="600" /><br /><br /></div>And my mind.<br /><br />So honestly, I'm not even do that anymore.<br /><br />Nope. This year, after all the presents had been opened and the crowds were all gone, I sat in front of the tree, during those last days in December, rocked in my chair by the roar of the fire, took in all the information I gathered about the previous year and I stowed it away for future use.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I can't wait to share that one.<br /><br />I'm actually afraid I may overwhelm you with all the posts I have to share. Lots of Exquisitely Unremarkable coming your way...but just for December.
<br /><br />I'll go back to my normal 2 posts a week in January, I promise.<br /><br />So what else is going on around here? <br /><br />Well, I've decorated for Christmas. Twice, to be honest.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="Flocked Christmas Tree" border="0" height="900" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkb6GVB4sDpdHONeedVYxya0et5q9dtMHLBjqU76koeO8qEldcpl5M9mt48CSsbI143U1wMyCvczcjTamJfxmcV4ixuSayWWQBMlTKSJMhYKSmW7F-Bvy9p8sgcgawOm-4on4Dm3MejR9fLGFJga2DoIh3gp0VdmxC3FDEVvoiqnwv9E14iMlXPmX0od4/s16000/Flocked%20Christmas%20Tree.jpg" title="Flocked Christmas Tree" width="600" /></div><br />The first time around was back in November. I put up <a href="https://rstyle.me/+B7MeoqcfcA-ZfuB11-espQ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this brand new flocked tree</a> and my daughter loved it so much, I took it down, boxed it back up and gave it to her, because that's what moms do, right?<br /><br />Then <a href="https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2014/12/a-simple-rustic-christmas.html">I put up my old tree</a>...which is ok, because I really do love it.<br /><br />I didn't use a lot of other decorations though. This year, I've pared things back a bit. Have you ever done that? Leave half the Christmas decorations in the bins? It's a new one for me...<br /><br />This year, instead, as I said, I'm all about those crafts.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Cottage Style Christmas Decor in the living room" border="0" loading="lazy" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOTJN60f3l3wXI-N2CpzP8Bisk1ZLeR4rFlRIwhBJu8QcxhI5VSjmkSwngEh26nZUdCXXLEHlBWRBZJ2yrBx2QfUd5vpT6LzSr1tLfKDgevjVq3nReY5zfTuQE1bdR3OgjPj3afGcXQovt-PK-8H_0XbhewZKbEq3X4en8VhJrdjlAD17R5Vajz4Kd/s16000-rw/Cottage%20Style%20Christmas%20Decor.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Cottage Style Christmas Decor" /></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>Christmas in the family room 2022</i></td></tr></tbody></table><br />And less clutter. Less dust. I still think the cottage looks very festive, it's just a cleaner aesthetic...and one that will get fuller as I complete my projects and pepper them around the house.<br /><br />What else? Hmmm...let's see. I'm way behind in my shopping. As my kids get older, I find it harder and harder to come up with great gifts for them so I put it off until I'm forced to get online and click add to cart.<br /><br />Instead I've been shopping for fun things.<br /><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><a href="https://rstyle.me/+53Aw5ftG_Likv7urAIqk4g" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">This adorable wrapping paper</a></li><li><a href="https://rstyle.me/+O-TwBKDsn3CTJwuiwaHDoA" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">I'm doing this again this year</a></li><li><a href="https://rstyle.me/+0gZHjSDhqQ1ReDx5bjYLWA">These pillow covers</a></li></ul>I've been listening to <a href="https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0afX3kIpS8NnqtbNjy3Kow?si=7edeff6f1e984517" target="_blank">my Christmas playlist</a> on repeat, too.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="Favorite Christmas Music" border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwj-sztEaRk3uwu7EVG88qSMV3kfqx0Z8QskVujNrCcNPw4kaOyQ3PgXqi-e8hNZKNGaS7lWcDkicfAX-S_KsWRYUTI68qEoetheWNFi9znkZ-5NEkdewB4L-cifqW6mKLtsh3QO58VOJiCNHuaLCSaewoI4buWK6AxF6RA_oJaDPzaj2Cn0YxBFM5OE8/s16000/Favorite%20Christmas%20Music.jpg" title="Favorite Christmas Music" width="830" /><br /><br /></div>And watching {very bad} Christmas movies for about a week now and all I can say is that I'm convinced the best holiday flicks are the oldies. You know, black and white or animated. The classics.<br /><br />Although, I do get a kick out of Elf, The Holiday and a cheesy made for tv farce called Holiday in Handcuffs. Anyone else know that one? It's ridiculous. <br /><br />
Oh, and in the ridiculous column, I'm babysitting my daughter's hamster. Did you know we have a hamster? Or I should say, we had one...a sweet addition to our family during the pandemic, since he was the only furry pet that didn't bother my allergies.<br /><br />But I must admit, I was a reluctant participant in the acquisition. As my brother said, when he heard the news, <i>MY SISTER let a rodent in the house?? </i><br /><br />Don't get me wrong, I love animals and over the years I've had everything from cats and dogs, fish, birds, bunnies, frogs, turtles and hermit crabs to sea monkeys.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="Chester The Exquisitely Unremarkable Hamster" border="0" height="900" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNy-7sMQ4ug0Jds-pvNEfQsrb5ZZ6CaMfKZmBhJwgoZi0gfNBL-AydOqMNRTYYjWYjBhZM5qEDeCEDbKleB6rRRg7YFpO03OQDuWyQZfI_OJRc5JSfcmLpXBL9aZobETPaZeVfC_YVnbhotBJgxqWGlEjzOJJeNpR-K06satQpbLHO_m_Hb4BGDUw0r2c/s16000/Chester%20The%20Exquisitely%20Unremarkable%20Hamster.jpg" title="Chester The Exquisitely Unremarkable Hamster" width="600" /><br /><br /></div>But mice...yikes. Anyway, he turned out to be the loviest little guy and I grew very fond of him. However, when my daughter moved out this summer, he went with her. Well, he's back for several weeks while she's on vacation.<br /><br />And he has an eye infection...so he needs drops. Twice a day. Have you ever tried to give a hamster eye drops? Yeah. Not easy.<br /><br />That Christmas poem about not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse? They lie. He's always moving.<br /><br />Anyway, between this and the up and down Christmas trees, the past few weeks definitely belong in the "the things we do for our kids" box.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Ceramic Santa Candle Holder" border="0" height="900" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8JB_Z47GPDsif3nl3-hKphj6kfG51e8oNVdCptlF3W5ouWvNS0R8RAYQeJOc6knBYbGBsgcHZLbRidAro7O0IG93YyEHAg9UVZJzh4wI2px27zUeHep32Csk18Av-41u4_zoi40l0TZ2ULmXx5fl3R80hLvCBsptyCZISdHbVt6VHkdTlJfvd2twKKQQ/s16000/Ceramic%20Santa%20Candle%20Holder.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Ceramic Santa Candle Holder" width="600" /></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>I found Santa at a church fair yesterday for $3! </i></td></tr></tbody></table><br />Other than that, I'm hoping <a href="https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2022/07/simple-christmas-dessert-treats.html">to bake a lot</a>, eat a lot, visit with friends and family, go to more holiday craft fairs and light shows, sit quietly by the fire, in the living room, to enjoy the view.<br /><br />Watch some of those old movies.<br /><br />And craft.<br /><br />🎄<br /><br />What does your December look like?<br /><br />Merry Christmas, Friends!<br />Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/15445291034631735026noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072740790042271296.post-15596499835945170462023-12-01T12:45:00.026-05:002023-12-03T19:11:04.022-05:00Creating DIY Decoupage Christmas Coasters With An Iron<br>Old bathroom and kitchen tiles make the best DIY drink coasters.<br><br>You can whip up a few for Christmas in no time with this quick craft idea.<br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="How To Make Custom Drink Coasters From Old Tiles" border="0" height="900" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6W6wQLZ42wwMkHfMZdYvS39RfzjnNUEunq6Qwn9IeTZwG47sAlA1e0_kHELRc0BgBQ1_EocCKWlzQ4hOQtmowk2t7PPyfQwUqz5lS1qYChnH1oBYhe_fBsMi2ZxtTzV37F0r-bEOq5WQTNBWnLc2DtYTuvzJj9-x1-xe3BFYnW7JHo8Qhz-6pbrPkHYo/s16000/How%20To%20Make%20%20%20Custom%20Drink%20Coasters%20%20From%20Old%20Tiles.jpg" title="How To Make Custom Drink Coasters From Old Tiles" width="600"><br><br></div>When we moved into this house, two decades ago, the bathrooms were in need of some serious help. <br><br>The colors and styles were a mix of classic vintage, which I loved, and dated 80s updates. <br><br>Which I did not.<br><br>So for our first renovation we gutted the hall bathroom and covered it in 4x4 inch white square wall tiles that better suited our 1920s beach cottage.<span></span><a href="http://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2023/12/make-tile-coasters-with-an.html#more">Read More of This Article</a>Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/15445291034631735026noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7072740790042271296.post-87180501471545665972023-11-28T12:54:00.012-05:002023-11-28T13:04:01.287-05:00Wooden Gingerbread Man Sign DIY<br>Make your own large wooden gingerbread cookie sign for Christmas with this simple DIY.<br><br>Display him inside or outside for a little festive seasonal flair with this classic holiday decoration.<br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img alt="Gingerbread man holding glitter snowflakes in front of a tree" border="0" height="902" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC7-dgkditSJjV-IRGfOSIcvZcDdvbH4b-oTfHPBtumg5viyFx2swJcBlwnVpPePkE8K-R8WZheX_WVg61gewFmnXTkE4V8QtkoISjlMQzwzTvtXNVwcXmZDsxgATNM122IOQZrc7FqjGy39k3DSF2he3xzHMOmbqOe0mYRLenPKW1JKq8cWbxsbvIYlk/s16000/Gingerbread%20Wooden%20Cut%20Out%20Sign.jpg" title="Gingerbread Wooden Cut Out Sign" width="600"><br><br></div>Ok, before you think that this entire season is going to be all about gingerbread crafts I want to assure that it is not.<br><br>I may have one more to share in December, but I promise you, a gingerbread-palooza was not my original holiday plan.<br><br><a href="https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2023/11/upcycled-wooden-gingerbread-row-houses.html">The upcycled gingerbread row house</a> I shared last week was the plan b makeover of a thrifted treasure.<br><br>That {upcoming} December craft just sort of popped into my brain when I stumbled upon a few gingerbread house gift tags yesterday.<br><br>In fact, the one and only planned gingerbread craft I had to share with you this season, wasn't even my idea.
