This weekend, April showed up in all its glory in my neck of the woods.
Yes, I know we were technically several days in, but Saturday and Sunday were quintessentially April.
There were showers and flowers.
And Easter!

When I was little, Easter was probably my second favorite holiday of the year.
It ranked right up there with Christmas.
Oh sure, picking Halloween costumes and addressing those tiny valentines were always exciting.
But for some reason Easter seemed to hold some of that same Christmas magic.
Just like Santa Claus, that tricky Easter Bunny would sneak into the house once everyone was asleep to deliver big baskets full of treats.
Then later in the day the house would be filled with family.
A huge gathering with aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents.
Laughter, stories and lots and lots of food.

My Beautiful New Red Dishes set for Easter
Every course made by mom, from scratch, and served on the most beautifully set table.
Her wedding china, gold flatware and crystal serving dishes.
Special pieces that were hidden away, in the base of our dining room table.
It was a hollow area, that was only exposed when the table was opened to add more leaves.
As a kid, I thought it was the coolest thing...and to be honest, as an adult I've never seen anything like it - and trust me, I've looked.

My April Fools Thrift Store Vase Makeover
Lots of food, lots of laughter, lots and lots of love.
I hope to close out the month with more of the same, when we celebrate a family birthday.
In the meantime...they'll be LOTS of DIY, renovation and decorating projects going on around here.
If you missed the March DIYs you can peek at them all here:It's a job that's still in process. I'm working on a design, while he frames out the base.
- I made the most darling Faux Sugar Egg
- I made an Easter Bunny Pillow from a table runner
- I turned a thrifted frame into Easter Outlet Cover Art
- I rounded up 21 Easter DIYs from the archives and...
- I whipped up a Scrap Ribbon Bow for a plain wreath that camouflaged my crumbling stoop and chipped front door
I'm not a huge fan of AI, but I have to admit, it's super helpful when you want to test out and share your vision.

My AI Rendering Of My Proposed Front Stoop in Blue Stone
To show the guys at the stone yard, and your husband, what you're looking for...

And in Coal Stone
I also used it to mock up my family room with about 100 different washable rugs from Amazon before I ordered them...and then returned them. One at a time. No kidding.
And in the end you know which one I kept?
Yeah, the one I started with...the old throw away from my living room.
The others were too busy. The braided one anchors the space while fading into the background and keeps that couch as the star of the show.
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it just feels like me...and I love it.

Well, for now anyway. 😉
In really big news, I'm making a big change in my kitchen. I even hired a contractor to do it.
Shocking, I know.
My husband wasn't thrilled about that part. He is my one and only DIY guy, making all my crazy design ideas come true for decades.
But since he's a weekend warrior, he's booked until October - or so he says -with lots of spring and summer projects.

What's inside? Any guesses??
I vetoed that plan and called the guy who built my kitchen 20 something years ago. That was the last time, I hired someone to anything in the house.
Of course, I'm waiting on him too, but hopefully he'll show up this month.
Another reason to love April!
Well, that...and all those flowers.
🌷
What do you have planned this month?

Hmmm...not sure what's in the box. Love your green room and I like the direction you're going in on that stoop. I think I'm slightly more partial to the blue. Can't wait to see what you choose!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The AI photos are so fun. I love the blue and the black is interesting, too. In real life, it's not as harsh, it's a lot lighter. So many choices...so we'll see! ☺️
DeleteYour table as a kid sounds awesome! I've never seen anything like that either.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice Easter with your kids.
I'm ever so excited to hear more about the kitchen. We are in the planning process of doing something to our bedroom. And yes, AI is helpful for that!
It was a very cool table for sure! I think I was always excited when the table opened, because it meant a party was on the horizon...with lots of food and family!
DeletePS - I forgot to say that I really like the front stoop in that blue stone.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks! Yes, AI is wonderful for visualizing and testing out design ideas. That blue is pretty. I’m so torn between the looks. We've had bluestone for years, so I was considering something a little different…but we’ll see. Such a hard choice since once it’s done they’ll be no swaps! 🤣
DeleteHi Kim, I absolutely love ❤️ everything in your photos. In your photo of the table, I love the Gingham material and Toile placemat. I also love the green 💚 room. Green is my favourite colour because it reminds me of nature, which I love. Thank you so much for sharing. I love your posts.
ReplyDeleteGreen is one of my favorite colors, too, Linda. There's something very soothing about it. It's such a calm color. I'm glad you like it!! 💚
DeleteGee, Kim. I seem to have missed a lot! I'm headed back to read a few posts!
ReplyDeleteIt was a busy month, Ann! I guess spring energy was in the air...
DeleteThe red dishes are so lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I can't wait to see what is in the box.
Thanks Chrissy! The dishes really are so pretty in person, too. It was a fun surprise.
DeleteGood morning! I love your red dishes…the perfect shade of red. And your “old” red rug fits your style so well. The black stone complements your roof and provides a neutral base for a variety of stoop decorations including planters, flowers, and door wreaths. Perhaps the mystery box contains new lighting.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I'm so glad that you voted for the black stone and the rug! I love that rug and I'm really feeling drawn to the dark stone. We've had bluestone on that stoop for years and I've been craving a change. This just might be it! And hopefully I'll have the big box reveal very soon!
DeleteWhat a nice story. I feel the loss of those multi generational family meals and like you Easter was as special as Christmas to me as a child. I still remember my first pair of nylons and mom teaching me how to hook them on a garter 😂. The braided rug fits me to a tee! ❤️ I’m partial to the black steps as it pulls the black from door and makes it look richer, warmer. Blue is nice with your stone too. I guess real samples are needed to determine. Pamela
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela! I really do miss those "good old days"...so many lovely memories, like the one you described. The holidays always brings them back to the surface. ❤️ I'm glad you like the rug and the black on the stoop. I'm always eager to hear your take on design...I really do appreciate your input. We've had bluestone on those steps for years, so I was leaning toward to the black for a change and a pop of color. Of course, as you said, the samples aren't quite as stunning as the renderings. So we shall see...Enjoy the weekend and thanks again for visit!!
DeleteHappy Easter,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your memories and the new memories you are making.
For the past three years it has been the four of us for Easter. Wait, last year Sam's girlfriend was able to come. She works some holidays, this year was her year to work Easter.
Good luck with all the projects. I am excited to see them all. The KITCHEN???? Oh boy!! :-)
I'm excited to see the kitchen project, too! Hahaha!! Fingers crossed it will be completed next week!!
DeleteHello Kim ... I'm popping over for "a visit" from Chrissie T's blog. What a lovely post - I just love Easter too & now that I need to take my Easter decor down, I kind of don't want to. Your braided rug is just so wonderful Kim - your whole lounge room is stunning. I very much enjoyed my visit to your blog today (thank you) & shall be back for more visits & to see what's in that box!! Wishing you a lovely day Kim. Julie xx ♥️
ReplyDeleteWelcome Julie! It's a pleasure to meet you and thank you so much for all your sweet words. I think we may be kindred spirits, because I feel the same way about my Easter decor right about now. It's so cheerful...a pop of pastel color after a very long and gray winter. I may leave it up until June! I hope to see you in the comments again soon and I hope your weekend is a cheerful one! 🥰
DeleteWell, I love that rug and I bet it feels good under the feet! April is starting slowly here and I will keep that pace until June. I can't wait to see the changes you have in store!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gina! I think I got too caught up in what I see in my feeds and what I thought the room should look like, but I'm glad I went with my gut and kept the old braid. It's very comfy!
DeleteGood Morning. I am playing catch up from just getting back from Easter. The rendering of your front stoop looks beautiful. Wow that is going to look amazing. I cannot wait to see what you do in the kitchen. I know it will be beautiful. Have a great rest of your week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks Kris! Owning a home is a never-ending responsibility. There are always things to repair, things to update, and if you’re a decor nut, like me, things to swap on a whim!! Haha. I know you get it! Happy Weekend!!
