Puzzle piece Christmas ornaments and gift tags are easy and elegant crafty accents for the holidays.

Create unique accessories for gifts and table settings and more in minutes with these step by step directions. And trust me, they're not just for kids!

Puzzle Piece Christmas Crafts Collage

So back in October, I welcomed fall into my home with a puzzle piece pumpkin frame and it was a big hit.

I showed how this simple preschool craft could accent a photo or a phrase and become a whimsical home décor accent.

At Thanksgiving, I framed names printed on cardstock and made pretty pumpkin place cards.

And now it's Christmas, oh the fun I'm having with these puzzle pieces during this very festive season.

As I mentioned in the earlier posts, the basic puzzle piece premise lends itself to virtually anything the imagination can dream up.

Projects can be big or small, for the kid's classroom or displayed among fine china.

It's all up to you.

The process is very basic.

Step One: Paint pieces
Step Two: Glue them to a base shape
Step Three: Decoupage to seal and decorate

I make my shapes out of old cereal boxes and paint them in my base color.

Sometimes, I vary the piece sizes and mix different shades of the same color to add some interest.

I use craft paint and get messy fingers, but spray paint works well, too.

The process is extremely simple and very, very forgiving.

This Christmas I made wreaths and trees and have used them in a variety of ways.

I love to embellish packages with the unexpected ~ I'm looking for more than just a bow!

These puzzle piece shapes are perfect.

They can be used alone or with a photo or stamped picture framed inside.

Replace the picture with a name and it becomes a fabulous gift tag.

Add a small ribbon hanger and your gift recipient gets a unique ornament, as well. That's two Christmas treats instead of one!

Make a simple picture ornament or upcycle old Christmas cards by framing pretty scenes inside a puzzle bell, wreath, tree or angel shape.

Glue on a few buttons, add glitter or ribbon and totally transform the basic shape to create a very sweet holiday accent.

I used a few gold and brown pieces to craft a star and trunk on my painted tree.

Then I glued on some curling ribbon I had left over from my yarn trees and voila, a pretty handmade ornament!

A couple of buttons and a ribbon transform this tiny green circle into something special for the season.

I wanted to add a photo to this one, but just like when I tried this fall, I could not get approval from anyone who lives here.

That's okay though, I really do love Santa.

Which is why there is a special place at our table for him!

I have stated this many, many times before, but I am all about easy projects and it doesn't get any easier than this one.

It's an oldie, but goodie and offers up so many opportunities to make a truly personal treasure during the holiday season whether you are two or a hundred and two.

How can you pass it up?

Merry Christmas!
