Hurricane Tulip Candle

Add some flair to your decor with this very simple DIY. Add tulip petals to a glass hurricane and drop in a candle...here's the inside scoop.

Floral Hurricane Candle Decor

The snow may still be on the ground, but the tulips are on the table and that makes me happy! A few weeks ago, I had a vase of pretty pink ones on the nightstand in my bedroom and it really brightened the entire space.

Of course, when I went back to the grocery store this week, they were all of out of pink.

Now I am not normally a fan of artificial flowers, unless they are on the front door. I like the energy and the invisible life force that you can only get from fresh. However, I did have some silk stems  leftover from my rain boot article on hand.

They came home with me during the conceptual phase and hadn't yet been returned. I grabbed them out of the car, cast my prejudice aside and started thinking.

I tried them in a few containers, but no, they weren't right. Then I spotted my hurricane, filled with beans, and decided it was time for a springy update and a fresh idea was born...and it took me less than ten minutes to create.

Floral Hurricane Candle Craft

I love it. I actually cannot wait for dusk, so I can see it lit up in its full glory! This is basically self explanatory, but the unnecessary directions are below.

Glass Candle Hurricane

I placed an artificial candle, with a timer, in the center of the hurricane that I picked up either on clearance or at the thrift store. I don't honestly remember. I just know it was cheap.

Next, I removed the pink flower heads and a few greens from the stems and dropped them into the glass, making certain that the candle remained centered.

I pushed a few of the heads into the bottom rim of the hurricane to fill the space. Then I literally separated a few more tulips from their stems and tossed them inside. I did pull some of the flowers apart a bit, so there was a mix of full flowers and loose petals inside.

Lastly, I tucked a few of the green leaves in strategic places to add a bit of whimsy and contrasting color.

Faux Flower Centerpiece Idea

VoilĂ ! Instant pretty!

Now the one thing I will say, is I hate...hate...hate dusting faux flowers. This one is pretty easy though. I dump the flowers out to clean the glass, put the petals in a plastic bag and give them  a quick blast with the hairdryer (or my husband does outside since that would make me sneeze!). Then I toss everything back inside.

How To Make A Floral and Candle Centerpiece

The palate in my master is green and white, so the pink really stands out and add a little softness.  When the sun goes down and the candle glows, it will add a little atmosphere, as well.

The flowers won't wither, the price was right and it took me longer to make my bed than it did to assemble this little number. I made it in spring, but it would look equally a cute in any season...just swap out your flowers to fit your mood or decor and you're good to go.

I'd say that makes this project Exquisitely Unremarkable!

Do you have a quick spring pick me up you'd like to share?

    1. Thanks Poppy! I am a big fan of the battery candles. My sister had a fire several years ago on Christmas from a votive and I have been a convert ever since. I also like the way they go on and off by themselves each day! :) Thanks for the sweet words!

  7. That's so pretty! I have an affinity for clear glass containers. When they are clean and shiny they are just so pretty...especially with pink tulips and a candle. :)

    1. Thanks Stacey! I like glass, too....but only when it's clean, like you said! I also love silver, like that platter you have in your kitchen! I have one silver piece, it's a Nambe bowl from my wedding, but I really would like a platter to compliment my glass!
