Dress your door for summer with this super easy sticker sign wreath. Check out the super easy and inexpensive tutorial.

Easy Summer Sticker Sign Wreath

Summer is almost here and I can't wait ~ I'm so excited! To welcome the season, I wanted to dress my front door in something whimsical, light, airy and full of the glorious color I dreamt about during those cold, grey days of winter.

Last year, I added letters to a wreath and while I love the idea of decorating with words, this year, I was craving a simpler, more rustic look to greet my guests.

I decided on this sticker sign wreath and I couldn't be happier with the result. It was super easy to whip up, it seriously took me ten minutes, and it's a foolproof way to get perfect lettering regardless of your penmanship skills.

I promise.

Plus, it's a wonderful way to decorate your front door or porch for summer.

Warm, sunny, lazy, hazy, dream-filled summer....

How To Make A Summer Wreath

I started with a pre-made twig wreath that I purchased last fall at the craft store for over 60% off. It was basic, but for about five bucks it was too good to pass up. I knew I could do something unique with it eventually and take it from boring to beautiful.

I wasn't wrong.

And yes, it is hanging on my kitchen cabinet. I like to work on wreaths when they are vertical. It's much easier to see how they will look on the door that way. Perspective is important.

I didn't know exactly how I wanted to dress it up, so I opened up my craft box to see what I had on hand. Lucky me, I had a wall sticker with inspiring words in the same color as the wreath flowers and an old wooden sign that my daughter's friend gave me last year.

Here Kim, the string came off, but I know you can do something creative with it!

I love that kid.

Wooden Signs

I also love the sign. It's very pretty and I do live by the beach.

I didn't want to destroy it, as I do plan to use the nautical sentiment in the future. So for now, I just flipped it over to the blank backside and since it was already finished, I didn't even have to paint.

Of course, if you are looking to recreate this type of wreath and you don't have a sign on hand, any small piece of wood will do. You could even use a shim. Just paint it in your desired color and you're ready for the sticker.

Wall Decal Stickers

I snipped the word DREAM from the wall decor sticker ~ something I love to do on the beach all summer long ~ and stuck it to the wood.

If I wanted to affix it permanently to the tiny sign, I could've sealed it with decoupage gel. I didn't. I want to be able to remove the sticker in the future.

Come Christmas, for example, I may want to reuse that little sign and slap a NOEL or PEACE sticker on it. I'm a fickle decorator, so permanent is not usually a good choice for me.

How To Make A Sign With Stickers

It's the same reason I used two pieces of frayed twine, threaded through the existing holes, to hang the sign on the wreath. I can just untie it when I am ready to repurpose.

If your wood doesn't have holes, you can just hot glue it on.

Lastly, I gathered a few more pieces of twine together, in varying lengths, to make a very primitive bow and tied it to one of the branches.

That's it, that's all it took to bring "summer" my house.

Now, I'm just waiting for the calendar to catch up!

  8. Kim, your summer "do" for the porch looks welcoming and a sure bet place to relax and watch the world go by. I'm not much of a DIY anymore, but I enjoy reading about these fun projects. Your signs are a cute idea! "Beachy Keen" ~ a take on "peachy keen" which I used to use frequently. Ha! I hadn't thought of that one in a long while though.
    Have a great week ahead!

    1. Hello Sarah! Thanks for the visit! I enjoy a little DIY, but generally it has to be super easy or I pass. Hence, my sticker sign. It’s funny you mentioned the “peachy keen” reference, the kids had no idea what it meant! I had to explain. :-)

  9. so pretty. I love the colors. We can't do wreaths on outside doors because the ocean breeze would just sweep it right away. I always love to see them on other people's doors.

  23. Kim, I love the color of the wreath and the sign you fixed to go with it! The best part is that it has a rustic look, perfect for beachy decor and perfect for fall and Christmas! And how wonderful that all you have to do is change the sign to make it work for the season! Pretty nifty, chick! I've pinned it to my DIY board! I will have to keep an eye out for a similar wreath -- just love that style!
