Hello friends and welcome to November!
Ah, the month of raking leaves, Thanksgiving, Christmas crafting and falling back.
Well, in the US anyway, where daylight savings time ended at 2am, so we all had an extra hour of shuteye.
Which is great, since I think I'm still behind from the hour I lost in March.
Of course, that also means it gets dark an hour earlier each night.
And that's not so good.
Well, unless you're a hoarder of battery operated candles...like me. They blunt that darkness a bit and go on automatically when the sun goes down.
At 4pm. 🙄
I have to admit, I've become addicted to those remote control flames.
So when I saw my friend Jennifer at @deerfieldlane sharing her combination plate rack- candle holder, in her super charming kitchen, I knew I needed to have one.
But actually ended up with this pair, to display my gorgeous red plates. Hers were a bit more rustic, they were similar to this one, but I knew brass would work well in my kitchen.
I have to say, this candle/ plate holder combo wasn't easy to find. I searched for weeks and, while I found a bargain, I paid less than $20 for both, the others I've seen are pricey. Yikes.
Once they were on the wall, I loved them, but I realized that the standard tapers I had were too tall and covered too much of the dish.
I did not, but once I found them I ordered a pack of eight. Two went here...looking so much better.
SHORT BATTERY TAPERS// BRASS CANDLE/ PLATE HOLDER |
The others went in the circular candelabra I found at the thrift store this summer. My husband told me, that with the tall candles tucked inside, it looked like it belonged at a seance.
I did not like that all...
So now, it too is sporting the shorter versions.
To light my way through the cold November evenings. If they ever get here. It's been unseasonably warm so far.
And for some odd reason, those 80 degree October temps had an unusual effect on me. For the first time ever, I put up some Christmas before Thanksgiving. As a matter of fact, it was before Halloween.
Maybe that candle holder does have some tricky powers, because that has never, ever happened in my house.
What's worse, is that since the mantel has been covered in evergreen and lights for a few weeks, I have an uncontrollable urge to put the tree up and start decorating with abandon.
Or at least start crafting for Christmas...
Which is always more fun by the light of the tree...hmmm. Maybe next weekend. I'll let you know how long I manage to hold out.
In the meantime, let's talk about the DIYs I shared last month. It was a bit of jumble.
Including:
- A Spooky Halloween Thrift Flip
- A Golden Thrift Store Pumpkin Fit For Cinderella
- My New Rosy Evergreen Christmas Set
- I Decoupaged Candles
- Made Chicken Pot Pie - so easy!!
I also made a patterned air dry clay ghost banner with a technique you can use for Thanksgiving or to make Christmas ornaments, so take a peek if you haven't had a chance.
In November, I plan to get even craftier.
In fact, I'm getting started this afternoon. I'm off to buy a wagon full of these light up houses to decorate since they're on sale.
Of course, it'll be no bargain for me, since I'm bringing my daughters along and that means mama will be footing the bill. That's ok, that's what moms do, right? Plus it means we get to spend time crafting together. ♡
I also have a drawer full of supplies and thrifted pieces just waiting for their place in the DIY line up.
Afternoons filled with painting, gluing and decoupaging with festive napkins.
It's Giveaway Time!
Four crafty packs of napkins that you can use for your own Christmas decoupage projects.
I've seen people selling individual napkins for decoupage on Etsy, so I figured it might be fun to just give some away...and I have plenty to share.

What are your November plans?
Happy Fall, Folks!
I put my tree up this weekend. I always start the first weekend in November. My daughter hosts Thanksgiving so I feel like I can get a jump on things. I get to enjoy the sparkle a little longer. This year Thanksgiving is falling late so Christmas will come quickly this year. You have some cute napkins. It is amazing how they can transform things into little pretties. Have a wonderful Sunday and great week ahead. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThis year Thanksgiving is very late, Kris, you're right. That doesn't really give us a lot of time to enjoy the tree in December, so I'm with you. Let's do it early. Besides, I do love that sparkle and I don't want to wait for it! Big hugs!!
DeleteI have so many battery-operated candles. The timers make them even better. Add a wreath and it's perfect for Christmas
ReplyDeleteThose timers really do make them so easy to have around!!
DeleteListen! Can I come to the next seance you have? ! I have a piece that is tall and holds 8 candles plus a vase in the center. John says it looks like a funeral home arrangement. lol. What do men know?
ReplyDeleteSigned up for the napkins giveaway. I have the mod-podge and think it might be fun to make some Christmas items with the napkins. You sure put me in the mood to "do". Trying to stay busy with being so restricted with John at this point. TJ Maxx and Hobby Lobby and Micheals sent info out for a welfare check on me being as I haven't been there in a while. lol.
Happy Crafting! xo Diana
Diana, I'm so glad that my post gave you a little lift! I think that’s hysterical about your candle holder vase. It sounds like our husbands were cut from the same mold! Maybe I should just send you my candle holder and you can summon the spirits over there! 😉 You can all decoupage together!!
DeleteYour husband says 'seance' like it's a bad thing - Ha-Ha!! I have started my Christmas crafting but the decorating will still wait for Thanksgiving weekend. I guess old habits die hard!
ReplyDeleteHaha…he thinks it’s funny, but it gives me the creeps now! I may have to give it a makeover for the holidays so it gives off happier vibes. 🤣
DeleteYeah! I love crafting with napkins. Every event I go to that has paper napkins, I always bring home an extra. My supply of Christmas napkins is very thin so....pick me!
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny! I'm so excited that you love napkins as much as I do!! I'm glad you entered!!
DeleteHi Kim! Thank you for the chance to win some napkins! I love to decopauge. Enjoy every second you have with your daughters! I lost mine 3 years ago and I miss her horribly. Specially around the holidays.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I am so sorry. My heart hurts for you. No one should ever have to endure that pain. My thoughts are will you...❤️
DeleteKim, it's so nice that you have a jump start on Christmas decorating your home. It's a tradition that I always wait until after Thanksgiving. I'm hoping our new dog will be good about all of the Christmas decorations and the tree! Happy crafting and enjoy this new month.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie! Happy November! I'm totally in the Christmas mood so early this year. I don't really know why, especially since I've always waited until after Thanksgiving, too. So far I haven't put up the tree...but I don't think I'll be able to wait much longer!
DeleteFunny comment your husband said about a se·ance. The smaller candles are great! The napkins are lovely.
ReplyDeleteHaha...it was funny, Linda! Of course, now that's all I can think of when I see the candle holder. I may need to give it makeover! 😉
DeleteKim, I bless you every time my little bitty battery lights come on. I did turn off the automatic function this summer due to running low on batteries but they are such a welcome glow around the house at night. I need to think about ordering some of your short tapers too because I am so afraid of lighting tapers around the house except for ones on the dining table while we eat supper. Your new ones with the hanging plates on wall are so pretty! And I think your mother-daughter shopping and crafting sounds wonderful! Have fun, all of you!
ReplyDeleteDewena, I'm so glad you love your candles! That just makes me smile. I stopped lighting candles several years ago, so they've been a real treat for me, too. Candlelight (real or battery operated) adds so much ambiance and warmth to a home, so I'm happy to have a safe option. Thank you for the kind words and I hope you have lovely November full of fun and family, too!!
DeleteI usually start decorating about the middle of Nov., but since I am having knee replacement surgery this Friday I decided to get some of it done now. I always DECORATE my kitchen (possibly too much some might say, but not me!) I use a Gingerbread boy/girl theme and I just love it. I worked my hiney off today though! Hubby who usually works part-time had to work full time this week so I did it all by my lonesome:) I tried to enter your giveaway but the link didn't work:( I signed up for your email decoupage group though.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheri! I'm so happy to hear that someone else has a little bit of Christmas decor going up. Let's bring on the sparkle! I did check and your entries went through, you're good! Best of luck on Friday. I hope it's a quick and painless procedure and you're back home with your Gingerbread in a flash! ❤️
DeleteHello, you know, this year I am going to be decorating early .. for Christmas. I think you have inspired me to do so. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove, Carla
Hi, Guess what, I think I am going to be decorating for Christmas early. I plan to get started the week of November 18th. :-) And I think you have inspired me to do so. I also just feel so Christmasy. Ho Ho Ho!
ReplyDeleteCarla
Thank goodness we made it to November! I'm sure it will fly past as quickly as October. I'm with you on the battery candles - LOVE THEM and even better if they come with one of those tiny cute remotes!
