Have Yourself A Rosy {And Evergreen} Little Christmas

OK, so I have a confession to make and I hope you don’t judge me too harshly.

You see, this weekend I started playing with Christmas decor.

I know, I know for the last 10 years I’ve said it over and over again.

No Christmas decorations until after the last Thanksgiving plate has been cleared away.

This post is sponsored by King Of Christmas, all opinion are my very own.

Whoops.

Well, it's not my fault.

You see, everything changed when I saw a rustic fireplace mantel, so much like my own, dressed in this lush Royal Fir evergreen set.

It was exactly what I'd been dreaming about for years...but I always procrastinated and by the time I was ready to make a purchase, it was either sold out or I'd missed the sales.

So when I placed my order in September, I was just being proactive.

And I was well behaved when the box arrived, I didn't even open it. I tried to have willpower, really I did.

KING OF CHRISTMAS TREES AND DECOR

However, this weekend we took a trip out east to go pumpkin picking and in between the corn mazes and cinnamon cider donuts, we stopped at the sweetest Christmas shop and all restraint went right out the window.

Along with my silly holiday decorating rules.

As soon as we arrived home, I literally tore open the box and decided to see how my new set would look if I gave it a quick test drive.

King Of Christmas Royal Fir Collection

Of course, there was no stopping me once I got started. Big surprise.

My set came with two mini trees, a garland and a wreath, all of which I began fluffing immediately.

Turning this...

Into this, in minutes.

Then I cleared all the spooky spiders and pumpkins off the mantel and began playing.

Stone Fireplace and Wooden Mantel Waiting for decoration

Thankfully each piece came with warm white LED lights, which was fabulous, because at the moment, my sets are buried behind a crate full of turkeys and cornucopias.

The wreath was battery operated and had a timer switch in addition to the on and off.

The trees and the garland could be either plugged in or used with a remote battery boxes.

I used the plugs since I had outlets nearby, but I do love options, especially if I want to move them around or outside.

Having everything set up and looking lovely was almost enough to quell my Christmas fire.

I was actually getting ready to put everything back in the box for a few more weeks of hibernation, until I saw the red roses I'd purchased recently on one of our evening village walks.

Faux Red Roses

I was suddenly compelled to add them to the garland.

Adding Roses To Evergreen Garland

And the wreath.

Adding Red Roses To Evergreen Wreaths

I think that was the point when I lost all control and decided to decorate for Christmas with abandon.

I added ribbon to the garland and candles to the mantel.

I even unboxed my grandmother's vintage Santa Claus.

I mean how beautiful.

But, my friends, the decorating didn't stop there.

Oh no. That charming evergreen set just kept inspiring me and I decided to add even more roses to the mix using red rose napkins to cover the large candles.

I think they were the perfect accent for my floral themed, cottage Christmas mantel.

A little bit of whimsy and romance to soften the hard edges of that floor to ceiling stone fireplace.

And such a dramatic pop of my beloved red, against the gorgeous evergreen and those twinkling lights.

Magical.

Rustic Christmas Cottage Living Room Decor

And way too dreamy to put back in the box now.

With a mere 77 days until Christmas.

It's practically time to decorate anyway.

And besides, I had a turkey sandwich and a yam yesterday.

So basically, I'm right on schedule.

😉

Would you have been able to wait?

    1. It is early, I agree...and this is so unlike me, but it was all just too lovely to put it back in the box! I guess I have a Christmas room now!

  2. I think you should do what speaks to you! And of course it looks lovely as I would expect. The red roses are great! I may do that too. But I love my fall so much I put it up early-ish and leave it up until close to Thanksgiving. And I leave the wintery Christmas stuff up until March when I switch to spring (even though spring may not arrive in Denver until May!). But then again, I don't have any knew fun Christmas stuff!

    1. Hi Pat! Thanks so much! I love fall decor, too. Next to Christmas, it's my favorite time to decorate. Right now the house is split. I just couldn't resist. Fall is everywhere, but the living room where Christmas has moved in! Who knows maybe it'll bring on an early winter, because like you, we can get snow anywhere from October to May! Brrr.

  3. Wasn't it Auntie Mame who said we need a little Christmas now? I totally agree when it's this pretty. I wouldn't be able to take it down either. Enjoy it!!

  4. You know I'm laughing because we've had this conversation - more than once! Although, in all seriousness, I couldn't have resisted that unopened box either. Those roses are the perfect touch and I love the look.

    1. Haha!! We did indeed. 😉 I was so torn, but now that it's been up for a few days, I've grown quite attached to the sparkle in that room! I'm glad you like the roses, I've never done flowers for Christmas before, but now I'm hooked! Thanks for the visit, Ann!!

    1. Thanks so much, Beth! Those battery packs really do make it super easy to move all that evergreen around to any spot that makes me smile! Right now it's staying put, but who knows where it will end up by Christmas! 😉

  6. Hey life is short so put it up early and enjoy it is my motto. I am going to start my decor up the first week in November. My daughter does Thanksgiving so I do not have to worry about putting up things early. I have Christmas Eve so it will look festive for then. That little vintage Santa from your grandmother is adorable. Made me smile to see it. He has a sweet face. I love old pieces like that. I am going to do a white Dove theme with my tree this year and it might just might have a few white roses in my tree and garland too. How fun to unbox and see how fun everything is going to look. Enjoy. Hugs. Kris

    1. Thanks Kris!! I'm never, ever this early. I know a lot of people, who like you, start right after Halloween. I used to host 30-40 people on Thanksgiving in this tiny cottage, there was barely any room for the turkey, nevermind a tree. Of course, things have changed now, and it's a lot quieter around here, so I can be the crazy Christmas lady without anyone judging me...well, in person anyway! Hahaha...oh and you were my flower inspiration lady. I loved your floral trees, so I copied. You know what they say about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. ❤️

  7. I was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1957, and delivered by Dr. F.L. GOBBLE (true story!), so your rule is usually my rule, too. Thanksgiving is a big holiday in our family, but I'd be the first to agree that sometimes rules are meant to be broken! (That's how the fun starts, right!) Everything looks absolutely beautiful, and the roses theme is perfect for your cottage! Keep on!

    1. I had to reply to you because I was born on Thaksgiving, 1960! But no Dr Gobble! :) Had to say hi to a fellow Thakssgiving baby. :

    2. THAT is a crazy story!! Dr. Gobble!! For real?? It sounds like the makings of a very fun holiday children's book...and a super fun day filled with birthday turkey for you!! Thanks for sharing your story with us, now I have a good one to recount at our Thanksgiving dinner!! Gobble Gobble!!

  8. oh goodness that is just gorgeous! i'm obsessed with the red accents and those napkins! also that santa is the cutest santa i've ever seen, they really don't make things like they used to!! gorgeous wreath, i need one for myself!

    1. Thank you so much! Yes, that wreath is so well made and looks real. I think my cute little Santa is really original. It's truly a vintage piece from my grandmother who was born in 1900. He's a very special treasure and now he has a very special perch!

  9. Ohhh....now you've done it!!! I completely agree with all the above comments. It's the perfect size garland for your fireplace, and looks so beautiful against the stones in your surround. The roses are a perfect touch, and I love that keystone in the arch over your fire box.

    1. Thanks so much, Kristine! That fireplace was the reason we bought the house. Ok, maybe it wasn't THE reason, but let's just say when we saw it, we were done! I do love the arch and the stones that go to the ceiling and I think I've finally found the perfect way to dress them for the holidays!

  10. You are so funny! I do remember you saying no decorations until Thanksgiving is done. I've been a stickler for that too, but have bent the rules and started on Thanksgiving when everyone goes home. Honestly, I wish our Thanksgiving was earlier, like Canada!
If I got that package, I would want to check it too. It looks so good! Nice job!

    1. This is definitely one of those "never say never" cases, Mari!! You would think I would know better by now! In recent years, we've been alone on Thanksgiving, just immediate family, instead of preparing a dinner for 40...so for fun we've been putting the tree up on Thanksgiving day. This is suuuper early, but I clearly have no willpower anymore when it comes to Christmas!!

  11. OMGOSH- I LOVE IT! It's beautiful. Absloutely perfect for your cottagey look. When the sale hit I purchased a 9' King of Christmas flocked tree. I am laughing because I don't dare unbox it or I will be all about Christmas before Halloween, too. Obviously, I would be in very good company, right? I didn't order the pre-lit because I have had SOOO many ISSUES with prelit trees in the past. I probably screwed up by not doing that but I have tons of lights....sigh....
Now you've got me thinking about it....lol xoxoxo Diana

    1. Thank you, Diana!! I just couldn't help myself!! Last year, I got a King Of Christmas flocked tree and I adored it. Of course, my daughter took it to her new apartment, but that's another story. Anyhoo...mine didn't have lights and I thought that was great, too. I could put any color I wanted on it...and when they burn out, I could just get another set. I think you made a great decision!! xxoxo

  15. After seeing this, NO I don't think I'm going to be able to wait until after Thanksgiving. besides, I work this Thanksgiving and we only have a less than a month between the two big holidays! I am inspired to do something similar for my fireplace and mantel this year - thanks for the inspiration!

  16. Beautiful decorations. We buy a live tree every year because we like the smell. I've also already bought a few Christmas-related items.

  19. Oh Kim, you crack me up. I do recall you saying many a time you do not decorate until after Thanksgiving, but it is contagious, isn't it? Once we moved into our home ten years ago, we began decorating in October. I said I wasn't going to put much up this year, but I am finding myself decorating all the halls. I love your fireplace and mantel, what a Christmassy cottage dream. I do think your grandmother's Santa is the perfect touch too. Looks great my friend and I cannot wait to see the rest of your decor!

    1. Hi Cara!! Yes...I guess this is definitely one of those times when that old saying, "Never say never" would come in handy!! Haha!! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who is decorating early. It's funny, since I usually decorate much later, I wasn't aware of just how many people begin decorating in October. I've been hearing a lot of "welcome to the club!" I love it!!

  20. There's just no ways I would have been able to wait and we don't do Thanksgiving in S Africa (we probably should because we've got a lot to be thankful for) so our festive decor rules are little more relaxed. The only thing I need to worry about is how bauble-ified the decor is. Our purr babies are terrors when it comes to putting those down.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh those purr babies! I remember literally pulling our kitties out of the tree somewhere near the top between light cords and ornaments. I guess they just can't resist the climb!! Haha!!
