July, July, July, my favorite summer month.
Filled with hazy, hot and humid beach days.
Late night pool swims.
Backyard barbeques, fireflies, fireworks.

And Christmas!
Well, dreams of Christmas anyway.
You see each summer I spend one week celebrating Christmas in July. It gives me time to play, prepare and plan for the upcoming holiday season.
Now, truth be told, traditionally, my focus has been on crafts. Over the years I've made ornaments, platters, upcycled decor pieces and wooden porch signs like Mr. and Mrs. Claus here, hanging out in my hallway.

However, in January, as I was packing up all my red and green decorations, I thought, you know, next year, I think I'd like to shake things up a bit.
But that takes planning.
So this July, my focus is on that...planning my Christmas decor for the upcoming season. I mean, I know it's early, but the Santas are already showing up in stores.
I want to be ready when the sales start and grab my treasures before they sell out.
Plus, it gives me time to check out the thrift stores and summer yard sales for any festive holiday decor that might fit my new theme.
And what pray tell will it be?
Well, at the moment, it's still evolving, but I know it'll feature a lot of pink!

Shocking, I know.
This red devotee should be jumping up and down every December. It's a month full of my favorite color.
But...after more than 30 years of red, red and more red, 365 days of the year, I thought it might be fun to glam it up a bit with some gorgeous vintage styled pink and purple ornaments.
Even better, those colors look great paired with my existing reds and they really pop against the greens in my bedroom and family room.
And who can resist a splash of mercury glass in December?

The real planning begins with The Nutcracker playing in the background, and me dreaming about sugar plums, snowflakes and tinsel...as I ask myself a whole lot of questions.
The first one being, will I decorate just one room, or will I go all out, spreading Christmas decorations throughout the house? I think we all know the answer to that one.

Then, I walk into each room and shift my focus to all things trees.
For they are the anchors.
Do I want trees flocked with snow or traditional evergreens?

Then I map out the possibilities and placement of one large tree versus several small ones. Or a combination of both.
With bases tucked into a galvanized tubs, contrasting with my new pastel ornaments for a rustic flair or covered with a velvet skirt adding to the elegance...lots of choices.
Lastly, I think about the lights. I consider simple sparkling white strands, my usual go to, multicolored and single colored strands for a little unexpected interest.
Once I've decided on my trees and lights, it's all about the details. The garlands, the wreaths and figurines.

Garland and Tree Set |
The one thing I do know is that I'll still be displaying my cherished, sentimental pieces. The ones that make me smile when I bring them out of the box each year.
The ones that remind me of my mom and dad, the days when I was small and ones that bring back the wonder of when my kids were small.
Melding old traditions and handmade gems, with new decorations to keep it interesting.

And full of a different kind of wonder.
Because whether the decor is old or new, isn't that what Christmas is all about?
Even in July.

Are you thinking about the holidays yet?

Merry Christmas In July, Friends!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! You've got me thinking pink now. 💕
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am smitten for sure. Not sure I'm going to be able to put them away, they really brighten the house.
DeleteEverything looks so beautiful. I remember how beautiful your cottage looks each year for Christmas. Going backwards a little bit to this coming holiday. Have a fun 4th. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks Kris! You know me, I'm usually all about that red, but I just love these bright colors. Jingle, Jingle, Jingle and Happy 4th!! 🌸
DeleteLove pink! And the saying is pray tell not pretell…as in Gwtw
ReplyDeleteIsn't the pink pretty? And the ornaments are really beautiful, very substantial. Oh...and thanks for the language lesson. ❤️ Clearly, I'm not a southern girl, but GWTW is one of my all time favorite movies, so really I should've known!! Haha!!
DeleteHi Kim love all these wonderful ideas, but here in the Buffalo NY area we wait a long time for spring and summer. I think I will pin these away until December and use them then. Right now in Western NY, we are finally enjoying some sun, warmth, and flowers.
ReplyDeleteKim, as a fellow NYer, I hear you loud and clear!! It's finally hazy, hot and humid and I adore it. We are enjoying the beach and pool days, but I have to say I have had fun dreaming of Christmas with all that pink. It matches my flowers outside!! I hope you have a long and lovely summer my friend! I'm hoping for one myself!!
DeleteI'm not thinking about decorations yet, but am always working on gifts! You're smart to be planning ahead though, because who has time in December? I love your ideas. I especially love mercury glass.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mari! I don't usually plan my decor this early either, but when I saw those ornaments it all became very clear. Of course, over the last few years I purged a lot of my older decor and thought I was going to be a minimalist moving forward. Oh well...I guess I just made room for more instead!
DeleteI love the pink, it's so girlie and pretty! --- perfect for your cottage! I always decorate my daughter's bedroom tree with light pink ornaments and I love it! It's so girlie and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am totally smitten with the pink and purple ornaments, Stephanie. I honestly might add pink lights to one of the trees as well. That sounds like a super fun idea!!
DeleteI was only saying to a friend that the Christmas goodies will soon be in the shops!
ReplyDeleteWhat a thought!
However, planning ahead can be very helpful.
Happy July and as I type this I think it's 177 days to go until Christmas :)
All the best Jan

Jan you are so good with the countdown! I didn't know how close (or far away) we were...but now I may be counting down with you!
DeleteI am definitely thinking about the holidays and am considering pink, too! It goes so nicely with greens and gold and white. I have a new Hob Lob very close to me now, and I'm sure I will be popping in there every now and then to check it all out.
ReplyDeleteI think the pink is just uplifting and bright. I thought it would be a nice pop during those dark and dreary December days. Oh and I was in Hob Lob the other day for a quick minute and they were unpacking Santas while I was picking out a pool float!! 💦
DeleteI am such a sucker for Christmas in July !!!! :D I think you must needs the pink flocked tree: I love it! I was so excited when I went to my favorite local coffee shop, and they are having Christmas in July and selling their Christmas blend which is my very favorite! :D
ReplyDeleteMe too, Ricki! Isn't that pink tree divine? It reminds me of all the trees Charlie Brown and Linus walked by when looking for their perfect evergreen! I hope you enjoy your Christmas blend...perhaps on the beach!! Happy 4th!!
DeleteI won't even think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving... other than perhaps starting some gift shopping a bit earlier than that.
ReplyDeleteI used to decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving every year. We used to host a huge family holiday so there wasn't any room for a tree. Now, we decorate on Thanksgiving Day, since we have a teeny celebration. It's a new fun tradition for us!
DeleteThat's a great idea! I love decorating for the Christmas season and starting the plan in the summer while it is hot and humid is a fun idea as well as a practical one. I haven't changed my decor much in the past 5 years or so as I simplified it then, but I am going to add a tree in the game room, so that would be a fun one to plan out!
ReplyDeletewww.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com
Thanks! We scaled down quite a bit last year. I only put up one tree and left a lot of my decorations unpacked. However, this year, I think I want to go a bit bigger again. Your game room tree sounds like great! That could be a very fun room to plan for sure!!
DeleteHappy July Kim, what fun, pinks, purples and sparkle.
ReplyDeleteThey remind me of a very colorful garden, Carla! The only kind I have success growing!! Happy July!! And Happy 4th!!
DeleteKim those are such pretty ornaments. I change my colors every year but now you just made my head explode! Is it too early to start thinking about Christmas tree decorations?
ReplyDeleteYou're so funny, Mary!! I always "celebrate" Christmas in July with a few craft projects, but this year the ornaments caught my eye and I started dreaming about my tree. Too early? Maybe. Unfortunately the stores don't think so...some of them are already featuring Santas. Poor guy doesn't even get to enjoy a little summer break!! Haha!
DeleteI love Christmas and for me it’s all about the plaid! In fact, if you happen to find red plaid (not buffalo checks) ornaments online or at a craft store could you let me know?
ReplyDeleteI do use a silver tree in one of my daughters’ old bedroom, and this year I’ll have two extra rooms to decorate as my son is moving out soon, and my youngest daughter gets married in August! Lots of exciting times ahead!
And of course, Christmas to look forward too!
I love plaid accents at Christmastime, Deanna. I love peeking at yours during the holidays. If I happen to see any I will certainly let you know! Sounds like you will be having a ball this December with two more rooms to decorate. I'm in the same boat!! Sounds like we're just going to fill our empty nests with trees.
