Anyone who knows me knows how much I adore summer.
Without question, it's my favorite season.
I'm a born and bred island girl who lives for hazy, hot and humid days spent on the beach and in the pool.

It doesn't really warm up around here until mid to late June. And sometimes, Mother Nature starts reminding of us that fall isn't far off sometime in August.
Clearly, she doesn't sympathize with me...
All that to say that, normally, I need to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into fall.
However. The older I get, the less energy I have to fight the inevitable. Fall shows up now matter how much I protest.
So this year, I decided to let go of my angst just long enough to pick up a few seasonal pieces when I saw them at Homegoods.
And it started with these dishes. I'm totally obsessed with dishes, so it's not a shock.

They were cottage style brown, pumpkin plates, for about 6 bucks each.
They looked super similar to some of the older - much more expensive - Wedgewood patterns, so I grabbed four and quickly set them up on my plate rack...just to see how they might look when fall really arrives.

Next, I wandered to the pillow area and spotted this charmer.
The colors were extremely vibrant. Plus, it sparkled from the gems that outlined each pumpkin.

I knew it'd look fabulous in my living room...and I wasn't wrong.
Fall also popped up in my garden.
You see, a friend shared some pumpkin and gourd seeds last spring and my husband tossed them around the yard.

I told him...over and over again...that our yard was way too tiny to grow pumpkins, but he was sure he could make it work.
And boy did he ever! We have pumpkins growing all over the place.
Next to the mailbox.

By the pool.

I guess where there's a will there's a way.
Of course, while I love to see those sweet babies growing in my yard, they have been a constant reminder that fall is not too far off.
Since July when the first bud showed up.
I think that's why I let my guard down when I walked into the store, saw all the pumpkins, felt right at home and started loading things like this in my cart.

But fear not.
Nothing is truly on display. I was just dipping my toe in the water so to speak.
Summer is alive and well around here.
At the moment, my kitchen looks like this.

My nights are still spent here.

And we're still eating summer salads.

Like I said, a taste of fall is all I can handle right now.
But knowing I have some pretty decor to look forward to definitely helps.
😉
Are you ready for fall?
Happy Decorating, Friends!

Oh my gosh Kim those plates had your name all over them. What a great find. Gotta love HomeGoods. I am a summer girl too but I like you am glad Fall is around the corner. I love the 70's and cool evenings. Have a great week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks Kris! Aren't they sweet? I really don't need anymore plates, but I couldn't resist. I hadn't been to HomeGoods in a really, really long time, I couldn't believe all the great stuff they had this time around. I need to stay away...I hope you have a great week, too! It is nice sleeping weather that's for sure! xo
DeleteI'm a summer lover too, but you're right, all that pretty decor really does ease the pain a bit. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt really does! Of course, the last thing I need is more decor...so I have to be careful, some things are just too hard to resist!
DeleteYou grew pumpkins on your patio? How is that possible? Do tell!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't easy to keep them in line, but it was so worth it!!
DeleteI love Fall but adore Summer because it is so short here. I haven't pulled out any fall decor yet but my Maria is coming tomorrow to help me at the house and at the clubhouse to start getting ready for fall. What are grandgirls for, right?
ReplyDeleteYour plates are beautiful and I love that picture of the doors. It's perfect!
Happy Almost Fall-- xo Diana
Thanks Diana! The older I get, the more I do enjoy fall. I think it's the fact that is the harbinger of the neverending, deep freeze of winter that gives me pause. Well, that and I do like those hot days spent outside at the shore. I love that Maria is coming to help you! Those grandgirls truly are so special. Enjoy your time with her!! xo
DeleteThat pillow! It's gorgeous and perfect for Fall. I love that you have pumpkins growing all over the place...that's my kind of gardening! Keep hanging on to summer, my friend. Fall will be here before you know it!
ReplyDeleteThose plates had your name on them! I like Fall but I fight it because I love Summer (and I hate cold). So for now, I'm still embracing summer but in a few weeks the Fall stuff will be coming out. :)
ReplyDeleteKim! I miss seeing you on Thursday call. We have had back to back trips and head to Sequoia National Park and leave Thursday. I need to plan a trip to Long Island. My son has alot of friends "up there." OMG did you watch the Billy Joel documentary? I never realized how many of his songs I knew and loved. And his story ... so good! We were in NYC for a hot minute with youngest.
ReplyDeleteOkay back to you! love your post. Please send me pumpkin seeds next year. I have tried almost every year for almost two decades. The only time we had pumpkins was when our Australian Shepherd tackled the Halloween pumpkins and the seeds scattered and nine months later we had baby pumpkins!
I love you HG finds! I need a HG fix. Okay I love fall the way you love summer! So may we can meet in the middle ;0)

Those pumpkins?! They are amazing! I wonder if they’d grow in our tiny yard too?
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely feeling like that "in-between" time. You found some amazing treasures! The plates are so adorable, and that pillow is gorgeous! And growing actual pumpkins?!? I am SO impressed! And if I know you, you will do something amazing with those as well!
