Thrift stores are amazing places to find home decor treasure, but let's face it, if something can be sourced for free that's even better.
I'm definitely one of those girls who should have a bumper sticker that says I brake for trash.
Honestly, some of my most unique pieces were either found at the curb.
Or given to me, by a family member or friend.

And this month's round up of my latest acquisitions was a big mix of all three.
I'm not going to lie, it was such a banner month, I'm actually a little giddy about this share.
Let's start with the curb, because I think I'm most smitten with this large metal rooster.

My husband actually found him when he was riding around the neighborhood on his bike...and lugged him all the way home. For me.
Isn't he fabulous?
A smidge rusty, but I think that just adds to his charm.
My husband also presented me with this silver flower stand.

I guess I'm not the only one who brakes for junk. He bikes for it.
It's very, very tall, super heavy and totally free. Love it.
It needs some TLC to remove the tarnish, but that's an easy DIY and I just know the after will be sparkly and stunning.
Of course, I did pay for a few things this month. I found two new shops and bought something in each.
I spotted these red rooster plates from across the room. Aren't they sweet?

They were marked $10 each, but the booth owner said that she'd had them for a long time so if I wanted some she's sell them for $5 each. I took two.
When I turned them over, I recognized the markings immediately.
The were part of Country Living Red Friends Collection. Of course they were...
I already have several dishes from Country Living and they're hanging on my wall.
Once fall hits these two will join them, but for now they're decorating my pine server.
In that same shop, I also spotted a few old Dixie Belle decoupage rice papers and transfers.

My crafty wheels are already turning and I can't wait to get started transforming a few things I have around the house.
You've actually already seen my next find. You may remember my DIY wash basin/ pitcher tale, the one I shared not long ago. Well, in the shop I mentioned that I didn't leave with a set.
I did however find the daintiest 3 surface, white cutaway, metal serving piece.

I've never seen anything like it and I think it fits my cottage aesthetic.
It was $18, a bit of stretch for this price conscious girl, but it was truly unique.
Besides, the rest of the items on my list were hand me downs from a family member who moved, so I feel like overall, it more than evened out.
Starting with this large, round, rusted, garden orb lantern.

I love the aged patina, but the rusted frame is getting a bit weak, so I will be updating it a bit before it takes its place on my fall front porch.
This crate is already sitting there, holding my pumpkins. Isn't it amazing?

Truly vintage, wood and metal, sturdy and it in great shape....and it didn't cost me a dime.
Same with these two planters.

They're both in pristine shape. The white one has been decorating my kitchen for weeks, as is, however, the blue one might get a makeover.
So it better matches my decor.

Also, clearly in the makeover category, is this small, oval coffee table.
It has so much potential, but it really needs some love.

At the moment, it lives in the family room and it looks like it was made for the space. Now, I just need to figure out whether is should be stripped or painted.
Any suggestions?
Oh and total aside, but keep your eyes peeled for an update regarding that red rug. It has a new home for fall.
You know who else has a new home? This guy.

He was last on the freebie list, but definitely not last on mine.
He needs a bath and maybe a teeny, tiny bit of paint touch up , but thankfully no need to repair the resin.
All in all, no bad for a September haul.
Of course, there's still about a week left in the month.
In fact, we are heading out to an open air thrift fair in a few days. The movers haven't shown up yet, which means there could be a few treasures for me.
And, let's face it, you never know where or when something will make you brake at the curb.
😉
Do you stop for treasure?
Happy Thrifting, Friends!

Wow Kim, that rooster is just great. I love that your husband brings things he finds home for you. I like all of your thrift finds and I can't wait to see what you do with them. Happy fall!
ReplyDeleteIt was a happy find sure, Julie! I can't wait to get creative.
DeleteA Big Happy Birthday to ya!
ReplyDeleteYou found some really great finds! I used to break for treasure but so often it fell to pieces or I discovered much bigger problems with it when I got home... and I was much too lazy/ un-knowledgeable about how to fix them up! I figured I'd better stop.
ReplyDeleteI totally get that, Joanne. I guess it all comes down to what people enjoy. There are definitely things I pass up because I know the process to repair it is beyond my skills...or my desire to get that involved. I like easy DIYs!!
DeleteWow, girl! You got some amazing finds! I am in love with that rooster! Good catch by the husband! I know you are going to turn some of these things into amazing treasures. You know I'm here for it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mandy! That rooster is my favorite. He looks great in the garden.
DeleteOh my word! You had a banner month! I love your finds. Kudos to your sweet hubby for supporting your habit. :)
ReplyDeleteThe rooster plates just scream your name, they were made for you. I love the garden orb and the crate, best hand me downs ever.
Now I will wait to see what you do with everything.
He's a good partner in my DIY adventures, Mari! It was a very full month for treasures, now I just have to find the time to update everything. Haha!
DeleteSuch a great haul for September. I really love the white planter - so charming. What a couple of serendipitous finds with the rooster and plates!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great month and it's not over yet! Unbelievable finds. Love the red china and I knew I recognized the pattern. At one time Waverly made a fabric that was a coordinate to the dishes and, believe it or not, I had red at one home. lol.
ReplyDeleteYou (and your hubby) outdid yourself this month. Lucky you! xo Diana
Thanks Diana! It was a banner month for thrift finds that's for sure! I love Waverly fabrics. I can't believe there's a matching fabric out there somewhere. Maybe I'll find some in my hunt one day!! xo
DeleteGreat finds Kim, plus your hubby is also on the hunt. The rooster is awesome, plus those plates are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI have a rooster just like the one your husband scooped up for you. I love roosters. Love crates too. Great finds.
ReplyDeleteWhat great finds!
ReplyDeleteI have gotten some of my favorite pieces from the curb!
I love that your hubby shares in your passion and brings such sweet prizes home for you out of love. I have one of those fold up servers that I got for 75 cents at a thrift store! You found some great free and bargain pieces, Kim. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWow, you had a great September haul. I can't believe the bowl. It's going to be stunning all shined up. Such a great hubby. Aren't they the best.

Wow! You've had a banner month for great finds, Kim! I love them all, especially the crate, the orb, and that rooster! It sounds like we both have 'Enablers' - they truly are 2 peas in a pod. I can't wait to see what you do with everything.
ReplyDeleteHi KIm. That silver flower holder is pretty amazing. I know you will shine that up so nicely. Love your rooster too. I can see in my mind your husband riding the bike with the big ole rooster riding along. What a great hubby to know you and what you love and can pick it up from the curb. Everything is great. Hugs. and Happy New Week. Kris
ReplyDeleteIsn't that amazing, Kris? I love it. Right now it's holding an ornamental cabbage plant on my back porch and it looks beautiful right next to that rooster!

Thanks so much, Barb! It must've been a silly sight to see...but totally worth it for me!! Haha!
Deleteohmygosh...that is quite a haul. But I have to say that my jaw dropped when you said your husband found those 2 treasures and brought them to you. Does such a man actually exist?? I love that little 3 tier serving piece. Something like that, truly unique AND useful is worth a little bit of extra pennies! I love those rooster plates too! Can't wait to see all the completed projects!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristine! Yes, he's an avid treasure hunter, but of course, he's the best treasure of all! 😉
