When I was teaching kindergarten and first grade, the daily calendar activities were very important business.
So much could be taught in those precious morning moments.
From reading, writing and math.
To the all important topic of weather.

Like the old saying goes, it's often in like a lion and out like a lamb.
And already on day two, March has been a bit of both.
Yesterday the sun was shining and there was a tiny air of spring. I even saw a few crocus buds poking through the ground, next to the mounds of snow.
But it was cold and there were flurries in the early morning hours.
The rest of the week looks just as wacky.

Ah March.
I'm fine with a little uncertainty though when it involves temps in the 60s! That's much better that the predictably frigid and snowy weather February delivered.
You can peek at some of it in a video I shared on Instagram.
And yes, that's the beach, most of what you see is usually water...not ice.

That's ok.
The cold gave me tons of time for indoor pursuits.I would've liked to have crafted more, but my husband and I came down with colds, just in time for our anniversary and Valentine's Day. We celebrated both snuggled up on the couch, with his and hers tissue boxes.
So romantic.
Once I felt better, I did spend some time in the thrift stores...but friends. Believe it or not, for the first time in forever, I didn't buy a thing.
There were lots of pretties, but I don't truly need anything and nothing cried out for a makeover.
And to be honest, everything was so expensive.
Like these brass candlesticks. $59 for the pair.

Yes, they are solid and this shop was more vintage than thrift, but yowza. Not for me.
I also continued to lean into my newfound interest in cooking.
I'm perfecting my technique with phyllo dough when making my mother's squash pie.

I've also used phyllo dough to make my chicken pot pie.
And I made my own pie crust for my quiche.

Who is this girl? I used to hate to cook.
I suppose there's a season for everything and now that I'm no longer rushing between carpool drop offs and pickups, proofreading homework essays and running kids to practice, those late afternoon hours are a bit freer.
And with an old movie playing (<-- these are some of my all time favorites) in the background, cooking has become a joyful task.
For now anyway.

We'll see how long this lasts. ð
In addition to getting outside more this month, weather permitting, I do have a long list of crafty things I'd like to accomplish.
Including add some spring accents to my home...mostly budget friendly DIYs.
However, I've rounded up a list of things I already bought and a few that are on my wish list. You can peek here if you'd like to see them.
As I said, I don't need much, by March is my birthday month and the mister just might need a few hints.
I'd like to decorate for Easter and bring out my bunny plates again. They're just so happy.

And the Easter banner I made with the same transfers.
So much better than looking at all that snow.

My friend Carol shared the most beautiful spring front door decorations last week and now I want to make a new wreath for my own.
Of course, I'll be doing all these things with one eye on the weather.
Hoping that lion is tired from all the roaring he's been doing this season so far.
Allowing the lamb to nudge his way into my neck of the woods.
While Mr. Lion takes a nap.
For a good long time.
ðĶ ð
One can only hope!
Do you have any big plans for March?

Well, March came in like a lamb here and --welcome to Wisconsin-- I am sure it will go out with a roar. We have sunshine today but it is deceptive and cold and windy outside.
ReplyDeleteI need to go spend a little time in Carol's Blue Sky blog. It is new to me.
Cooking today--Since John moved home I probably cook 2 hours a day...nothing like when I was just by myself and could fix something quick. It's a labor of love (kind of....) lol
I hope you have a wonderful week. We do have some warm weather coming up and I cannot WAIT until we have warm spring days and see some green.
Hugs to you- Diana
When it comes to the weather, I'm with you, Diana. I have no faith in that little lamb. It's sunny and frigid here today, too...and while the 60s are in our forecast for the end of the week, there's talk of snow again for the next. So...I'll be waiting for those warm spring days with you! And enjoy Carol's blog! She's a good friend and so creative!! Oh and happy cooking...2 hours, huh? That's a lot of love!! xo
DeleteThat is pretty much how are weather is. I am ready for Spring. Your chicken pot pie looks yummy. Have a great week. Kris
ReplyDeleteRight there with you, Kris! I've been drooling over all those southern spring porches...maybe I need to move! Happy Monday!!
DeleteWe were visited by the lamb this weekend. I hope she sticks around. We are in Vermont and have piles of snow literally several feet high. Yes, we are used to it, but it doesn't mean I have to like it! ðĪŠ P.S. Adorable transfers. I think I need a pack!
ReplyDeleteOof...Vermont snow is no joke! My cousin lives there and sent a video of snow that was up to their roof!! Now that is a lot of snow! Let me know if you craft with the transfers, they're so easy to work with...and I have a few more to use this year!
DeleteI try not to have big plans for March as our weather can be quite unpredictable still as well. Though I will be going to see Wicked fairly soon and I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteOh Wicked is wonderful! I've only seen it once, on Broadway, but I'd go back in a minute. Enjoy!
DeleteOh, Kim! I love this post so very much! I am going to go look at the link you share. I love.... big time love those plates!!!! I agree with you so much about March!! But I won't complain as well as I love those days of warmth in between the chill. We are going to be 82 degrees Wednesday! Not sooooo cool! :)
ReplyDeleteI do find stuff is costing a lot more in the thrifting department. I went to a huge yard sale this weekend and I am literally shocked at prices at yard sales today! The last few I have been to I leave shocked what people are putting on their used items. Especially, because most of the time I will repurpose it or something.
Anyhooo... it is what it is... We just make lemonade out of it! :) Have a blessed month ahead.
82 degrees!! Oh my, I am pea green with envy thinking about your weather! ð It sounds glorious! I can't believe the prices lately for second hand items either. I think thrifting has become big business on tiktok and Instagram and that has driven demand and prices up, up, up...and like you, I makeover most of my finds. So I don't want to pay a fortune for something I'm going to paint. Thanks so much for the visit and Happy March!
DeleteHi Kim, March came here in Montreal like a lion! We had two very cold days...-14 Celsius! The temperature is beginning to rise, though, tomorrow is supposed to be -4, I think. Much milder than -14! :) We did have a mild day at the end of February! 0!!! Yes, zero.
ReplyDeleteI love all your photos and your creative talent is always such a joy to see!
I love children's books...even though I am 69 now, I do love the illustrations and find them quite entertaining!
Your chicken pot pie sounds delicious! I do love to cook, but would you believe I have never made a pie of any kind???
I have made roast chicken, lamb, pork, well....yes, and of course vegetables, and I love salads and soups. The only soup I have ever made myself is chicken soup...with rice, carrots, cabbage, onions, fat free base and of course, chicken.
Oh my goodness, Linda! Your weather is a lion for sure!! Brrrr. I hope that lamb makes its way to Montreal but quick! Your meals sound delicious. I've always cooked, but I never truly enjoyed it. Now I find I have more time to sink into the process. I do like quick and easy recipes, though. I'm not one for long processes...in cooking or DIY!! I guess I'm consistent...or just impatient!!
DeleteI am sick of the cold weather
ReplyDeletetoo! Ready for sunshine. Love those bunny plates! Defintely need to check out that DIY, I need some spring colors in my apartment. Happy March Kim!
Thanks so much and yes!! A few colorful bunny plates would bring spring into your apartment for sure! Happy March friend!
DeleteI said March came in like a lion. Jeremy said a lamb. It was cold, only 6 degrees. I am in high hopes the 31st will be 55 and sunny... that true spring will have arrived.
ReplyDeleteI hope to make a banner for spring. You continue to give me inspiration.
I'm with you, Carla! 6 degrees would be lion for me, too!! Brrr...and I've been thinking about a spring banner. Now I definitely need to make one!! ❤️
Deletechicken pot pie sounds yummy, perfect cold weather food! ~Beth
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth! It's cold here again today...and snowy! Looks like comfort food will be on the menu of the foreseeable future!!
DeleteHey, Kim, I hope you are better for your birthday than you were for your anniversary. Thank you for the mention of my DIY wreath post. I bought out a bunch of flowers to make a flower basket for our front door, inspired by one of those door decorations. We are having unseasonably warm temps in the low 80’s. I don’t think this bodes well for summer.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure to share, Carol! It was so much fun to look at your post and dream about the warmer days to come!
DeleteSo looking forward to spring! We got another 6 inches of snow last night, so it's great to know that Easter is coming.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to spring and counting down to Easter, too. Seems like it's going to be slow in coming...we got snow again yesterday, as well. Looks like that bunny might need his snowshoes! Thanks for the visit today!
DeleteKim, Happy March! I am so sorry to hear that you and hubby both had colds. It's been a rough winter for us and I 'm so looking forward to spring weather here. I want those sunny days to return. I love your cute bunny plate and the bunting is adorable. Those spring items from Amazon are nice too.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much great information here and links to follow, that I think my morning is planned. There is something about spring that changes me into a different person. Now that we have gotten past the week of rain and gloom that had me shopping for sniper gear, the sun is shining, and I am ready to start getting out all of my Easter decorations, the bunny plates, the Easter eggs, the works! I’m impressed that you’ve been using phyllo dough. I have been cooking forever, and I will tackle a lot of things, but phyllo has always been one of those things that has given me nothing but trouble.
