February is an abbreviated month and yet, I am always astonished at how much gets packed into those twenty-eight short days. There are holidays, family celebrations, school vacations, extracurricular activities and snow ~ lots and lots of snow.
So last week, I made a new pillow cover for a chair in my master bedroom . The chair was begging for a little pizazz and I thought that a pillow covered in a sweet and sparkly green bargain fabric that I had seen in passing would do the trick. You see, I am not one for fussy décor or elaborate projects, so my micro update met the two most important requirements in any Exquisitely Unremarkable DIY ~ cheap and easy. Or so I thought.
One of the best things about white upholstery is that it takes so little to give it a new look. My bedroom chair is a perfect example. It's a great little slipcovered piece that we picked up at Ikea two years ago.
Cheap flowers from the grocery store can breath life into your decor, no matter the season. It snowed here again today. I haven't seen my lawn in...months. The ice and snow on the roads has become an expected fixture and the single digit temperatures are almost bearable. It's a pretty pathetic state when this self proclaimed girl of summer finds these near arctic conditions normal.
Here's a super simple slow cooker beef stew recipe that takes just 10 minutes to prep. You can even use frozen veggies to cut down on the cutting! Check it out. I am no gourmet. I believe I have made that clear before. It's just not my thing. I am, admittedly, awed by the gorgeous food photos that pop up in my daily stream and I would love to tell you that I pin them or that I copy the recipes. But I don't. I know that I'll never make them.
The first year in our new home was a wild time and while I would never want to relive it, it did provide us with some very funny stories. Of course, ninety-nine percent of the time, the laugh was at my expense. We closed on the house in early September, Labor Day weekend actually, a few days before my oldest would hop on the bus to kindergarten and I would start teaching preschool, my first job, outside the home, since having kids. It was a big adjustment and like I said, a wild year.
Paint swatch whiteboard crafts are a great way to use those old samples to create a cute and useful project. Kids have a way of making the best out of any situation. At least my kids do...case in point, every one of our endless trips to home improvement stores over the last decade. We dragged our kids to virtually every box store, lumber yard and garden center within a twenty five mile radius of our home, as we renovated every square inch of the property . They never complained.
Wag more, bark less. It's a philosophy for life. From the dogs. Found in the home decor aisle. Fabulous. I'm definitely obsessed with housewares and home décor items. I simply cannot go into a store that sells them and ignore the pull.
