Keep Calm and Get Your October On...when does fall really start and what does October mean to you?

Keep Calm And Get Your October On

I know the calendar proclaimed the arrival of fall weeks ago, but for me, fall doesn't official begin until October.

The mere mention of the word conjures up images of big sweaters, tall boots, hot chocolate with whipped cream, fireside family time, pumpkin patches, costumes, colorful trees and falling leaves.

Oh yeah~ Now, I'm ready for fall!

  5. I love the fall. My favorite thing, is walking outside and feeling like God turned on the Air-conditioner ! :-)

  6. It says orange, brown and red leaves. I'm hoping it says "cooler" pretty soon. As it's been pretty darned hot here.

  7. Pretty hot here too, Brenda. It's been hazy, hot, humid and more like summer than fall. Maybe October will change all that! :) Thanks for weighing in!

  8. Great analogy Susan! We're just starting to get a bit of that "air conditioning" now...hoping for a wee bit more in the coming weeks! Thanks for sharing! :)

  13. Yum, Jessica...their Boston Creams are my all time favorites! Maybe I'll see you there! ;)

  14. You're a poet!

October - in Alaska it would be the first snow (if we were lucky, not so this year - it came in September!). In Boston it's more like driving through unfamiliar streets looking at the old houses and the beautiful colored trees. Today I saw a coral-colored cloud-like tree as a foil for a smaller green tree in front. Was quite a sight! Isn't God the most amazing artist?!

  15. My kids have suddenly become huge football fans, so I think we'll be cheering right along with you! Thanks for popping by with some great ideas! :)

  16. Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't catch the fall spirit until October. Right on cue the temperature has suddenly dipped here, Kim. October says to me steaming bowls of homemade soup; the crunch of gold, crimson and tan leaves as I walk down the sidewalk; snow on the mountaintops and crisp apples. Love it all!

  17. Fall in your world sound like a painting, Nancy, just dreamy! Perhaps Dennis can capture the season the way you describe it for us! :)

  18. I have to credit my poetry to Pinterest, Nancy, but it is a pithy little saying isn't it? Wow, Alaska sounds so exotic...and so cold! I think I would prefer the sights of Boston as you describe...lovely! :)

  19. Great list! I love everything Fall; the warm drinks, the thick sweaters, the cool nights, the bonfires, the pumpkins, the falling leaves, the scarecrows, the cider, the way it smells, the crunch of leaves under your feet. All of it! Enjoy every second!

  20. It's totally the opposite for me here in Australia-it is Spring and I am enjoying sunshine, longer days, swims in my pool and cold wine on my deck at night! Isn't the world an amazing place! Enjoy your cooler temps and the gorgeous Fall beauty, Kim.

    Best wishes,
    Natasha in Oz

  21. I'm the same way. Fall here is when the foliage changes and that's never until October. October means pumpkin parades and festivals and taking the grands to the local farms for various activities.

  22. It sounds wonderful, Gwen! I love the hot weather, I am a true summer girl, but I don't think I could live anywhere that didn't have a true fall! :) Thanks for popping by!

  23. It is wonderful, Natasha! I can't wait to follow you through summer as we brave the winter and snow! We just closed our pool, so I will swimming vicariously in yours! :) Thanks for the visit!

  24. I am a big fan of the festivals, pumpkin patch adventures, hayrides and farm stands, too Deb! I think I'm a bigger kid, than my kids! ;)

  25. You described October to a tee! I might add cozy homes and comfort food. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  26. It depends what country I'm in! Growing up in Toronto, October meant trips to the apple farms, where we'd pick our own apples, go on fun hayrides, and then settle down in the barn for the most delicious apple pies! Of course, Halloween was always the highlight of the month, and costumes were either crafted or bought last minute! Then, as a young university student, it meant romantic drives to the countryside, picnics by the stream, followed by window shopping, hot brew in hand, on the cute, main streets of little towns.

For the past 3 years, it has meant shutting down the pool, starting my daily walks, cooking heartier, comfort food, and cozy evenings by the fire, (hot chocolate in hand), catching up with my bloggy buds, as I am doing right now!:))

    Happy October, Kim!

  27. Both versions sound lovely, Poppy! Your Toronto memories sound like a scene from a romantic movie or novel. I picture plaid wraps, jeans, boots, hand holding and crunchy leaves...oh yeah, and no grown up responsibilities like covering that pool! Ha

  28. Thanks Jann....yes, I should've mentioned a pot full of beef stew. It always falls off the menu until October! Thanks for the party!

  29. I grew up in Virginia and am now in Houston. I really miss fall. Like, leaves changing and that smoky smell in the air fall. Here we get not-summer. And then in December suddenly all the maple trees go "oh HAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIII!" and drop their leaves.

  30. I have to say that I am really a summer girl, but by the time fall rolls around, I'm ready for it, crisp air and all...until the day after Christmas. Then it could right back to July and I'd be totally fine with that! Not-summer...funny! ;)

  31. Apples, soccer, sweatshirts, jeans. And boots.

  32. Snuggling under the blanket with my honey and layering sweaters!

  33. You can never go wrong with snuggling and sweaters, Judith! Thanks for weighing in! ;)

  34. Jeans and boots rate right up there near the top for me too, Barb! Thanks for coming by! :)

  35. The temps have just started to fall here, Jen, hopefully you'll get a bit of cool weather to spur on that fall time feeling! :)
