How To Upcycle An Old Jar For Easter

Upcycle an old jar or bottle with this easy and inexpensive design trick.

Then pepper them around your table to add a festive touch to your Easter celebration. It's a quick DIY that can be customized for any occasion and a great way to feature your old glass.

Hello friends! Today I'm excited to share a colorful spring DIY and a few projects from my friends as we hop our way into spring.

In my neck of the woods, Mother Nature has been quite kind lately.

While the threat of snow doesn't completely disappear until late April, the birds have been chirping, the air has been warmer and the forsythias have bloomed.

That's always a good sign.

And with Easter on the horizon, this week felt like the perfect time to whip up something light, and a bit pastel, for the holiday.

So we start today with a fun way to upcycle an old jar.

You may remember this little glass milk jar from earlier in the month, when I used peanut butter to remove the old label.

Clean Glass Jar

You see, I knew then exactly what I was going to do with these charming tiny bottles once they were all clean. Way back in 2018, I gave them a similar makeover for Thanksgiving.

I adored that crafty project and have always wanted to replicate it, but never got around to it.

It was a super simple idea, inexpensive and quick.

In a nutshell, I'd purchased some round Avery labels, created a design, filled the jars up with holiday appropriate candy and dressed them for the table.

These are the Avery Round labels.
These are similar mini milk bottles.

Jelly Beans In A Jar

You can peek at that old post for the full instructions, but basically, I chose a few stock designs on PicMonkey, arranged them in a way that made me smile and then printed the design out onto the labels according to the directions on the package.

The labels have a link to a website that allows you to drop your design into a printing template so everything is lined up perfectly and printing is foolproof.

Took me about 10 minutes to make these sweet Bunny Brunch labels. No joke. And the majority of the time was spent choosing elements for the composition.

When I was done, my old bottles had been transformed into darling, color filled confections for my Easter Brunch table setting.

However, I was so smitten with my new creation, that I couldn't just stop at upcycling those little milk bottles.

I also decided to make a printable and frame it for my table.

It was another simple task. This time, I just printed out my design, full size, and popped it into a round frame I had on hand.

Framed Easter Print

But I still couldn't stop.

It's been kind of a long winter around here, so something about all that pink and green really fed my spring starved soul.

So I grabbed another old jar, a white ceramic mason jar to be more specific, and placed a round label on it as well.

Quickest upcycle in history.

I grabbed my jars at Michael's years ago, but you can give any old glass jar the same look with this crafty DIY trick.

I turned a bland and boring old jar into a bright and cheerful vase for our upcoming brunch.

Coupled with a few pink plates from another brunch, my mother's gold flatware and several raspberry hued roses, I had the makings of a fabulous Easter table.

Of course, as I said when I first tried this craft, years ago, the idea can be used for any occasion.

The stickers are a breeze to design and use and can be customized to make tiny favors for birthdays, bridal or baby showers, christenings, graduations, Mother's Day celebrations and of course, any holiday you celebrate.

Winter, spring, summer, fall...the options are endless.

Best of all, you can use any old jar or bottles you have on hand.

The mini glass milk bottles I have were leftover party favors. They all happen to match, but yours don't have to.

Imagine a table with a collection of vintage glassware, different shapes and sizes, perhaps even different colors. The stickers are easily removable, so there's no worry about damage to the bottles.

And you don't even have to use PicMonkey to create your graphic, any design program will work fine. You can also find free printables online and if you like my design for Easter, you can grab it here.

I'm happy to share.

My printables, my crafty DIY ideas...

Just not my jelly beans.

Ok, maybe a few.

But I get all the pink ones.

What's your favorite color jelly bean?

  1. Those jars are wonderful and so colourful! They definitely chase the winter doldrums away. Such a great idea to add the matching frame too.

My favourite colour is green. I've never been a fan of pink to wear, but it looks incredible on your Easter tablescape! I've never used PicMonkey before; I think I'll have to check it out! Happy Easter Kim!

  2. Wow, Kim! Your jars are adorable! I think we were thinking along the same lines about sprucing up old jars we have for this 'Do Over' challenge! We also like some of the same things - like the label design you chose. I used that same one on a waterslide transfer project I did earlier. Sounds kinda eerie doesn't it? Lol!
