Thrift Store Fall Decor

Hello fall.

Please do come in.

I won't bite, I promise.

Yes, yes, I know, I'm usually all about summer, the girl who drags her feet when it comes to welcoming fall into her home.

However.

Multicolored Roses In A Ceramic Pumpkin

This year, after all the crazy outdoor renovations that started in April and are still not wholly complete, is it any wonder that I find myself running indoors to decorate? 😉

Well lucky me, this week I just happen to be participating in the Celebrate Fall Home Tour hosted by Leen from Sand Dollar Lane. Five days that are just bursting with autumn inspiration from 23 of my most creative blogging friends.

If you're here, on this very first day of fall, from The Roots of Home, hello and welcome! Isn't her mantel outstanding?

I'd love to tell you that I'd be sharing mine today, but remember those outdoor projects I mentioned?

Yeah, the inside is no better. After 20 years in our charming beach cottage, everything needed to be updated. Again.

Painted floors in the hallway and wallpaper in the family room are just two of the projects underway and none of the rooms are done.

So today, I'll be sharing my fall kitchen decor. That room isn't in process.

And this season, I'm all about decorating with thrift store or yard sale finds. Secondhand, vintage. And cheap!

My favorite combination.

Decorating For Fall With Thrift Store Finds

I used to love browsing the aisles and loading my cart up at Homegoods and Tuesday Morning.

However, lately, I find that the merchandise all looks the same.

Exquisitely Unremarkable Fall Kitchen Tour Rose Filled Basket and Pumpkins

It's not unique at all and definitely doesn't fit the aged, collected, cottage style aesthetic in my home.

There's just no backstory or history either. Boring

I've also found that over the years, as my taste has matured, I've become a collector of sorts and what I'm looking for isn't available in stores.

And I kind of enjoy the thrill of the hunt.

This summer I found a ton of great treasure at thrift shops that I knew would add the perfect amount of fall flair.

Brass candlesticks are my newest obsession. I picked up almost a dozen in recent months for just a few bucks.

I have them all over the house filled with these battery operated timer candles.

Every evening at 7pm they go on by themselves and light up the night. I dress many of them with tiny floral rings.

Candlelight In The Kitchen with pumpkins and roses

In the kitchen, I peppered them in between a yard sale basket and vintage dishes on my pine server.

Another piece I thrifted years ago.

More of my plate collection sits above it...Johnson Brothers, Queens and Spode. Each one found in a different shop.

Decorating For Fall With Thrift Store Finds

Below the rack sits a tiny bathtub filled with baby boo pumpkins.

They're brand new, but aren't they adorable?

On the other side of the kitchen, I have a pumpkin cookie jar I scored years ago for a few bucks. It's filled with rainbow colored roses.

It makes an inexpensive and festive vase without having to carve an actual pumpkin.

Roses In A Pumpkin for Fall

I used to put it in the living room, in front of our stone fireplace, but since I've been doing a little updating in there, it's landed here.

Keeping my new rooster cookie jar company. Birds of a feather and all.

White Fall Decor rooster cookie jar, white pitcher and white pumpkins

He's hiding a rather large chip under some of those feathers, but for five bucks, I was ok with that.

The teeny plates were a quarter each, there are more candlesticks and that napkin was part of a lovely linen set I scored last week.

Because every vignette needs a little color.

And well, it's red.

As we make our way around the breakfast nook, you can peek at my online find. A footed wooden bowl from Poshmark.

Now I can thrift without leaving the house. How fun!

And a wee bit dangerous.

Pumpkins and Apples In A Footed Wooden Bowl

I loaded it up with real and faux pumpkins and pears and placed a mercury glass lantern in the center.

When I saw it, I reminded me of a pumpkin, so for two bucks, I grabbed it.

To add a some color, I placed candy corn inside.

Candy Corn In a Pumpkin Bowl

Clearly it's not for eating, although food does make a good looking decor accessory.

Especially with a little votive nestled between the sugar.

Candlelight and Pumpkins Fall Decor

It simply adds a drop of orange to the arrangement and I like the way it looks.

Even if it's not from a thrift store.

Are you a thrifty decorator?

  29. I really enjoyed your post. I, too, am a thrifter. Partly because I need vintage stuff for my booth, partly it's caz it's what I love best. If I had a choice between Wal-Mart and a thrift, I'd go thrifting! I still haven't figured out why some of the things move me to collect them, but that's OK! Now that I'm retired, finding a bargain is even more important. Between stocking a booth and crafting, I have found great interests to keep me going! P.S.; Although I'd love to thrift with you, I'd bet we'd argue over who saw what first!!!!

    1. Kathy, your PS made me giggle!! It would be fun to thrift together, but I'm sure I'd be getting the better end of that deal, since you own a booth and are an expert, I'd be learning a lot from you. I also agree, that I don't know what things move me to collect them or why I've been around brass candlesticks and milk glass my entire life, but have suddenly fallen in love. A mystery!! Thanks so much for your fun comment. I hope to chat again!!
