February At The Beach

Oh February, how do I love you?

Let me count the ways.

Um, actually, maybe that's not the best way to play this game.

February At The Beach

You see, I'm not really a fan.

In my neck of the woods, it's generally too cold, too dark, too snowy and I feel too crunchy and dry all over.

Although, to be fair, that's not really February's fault, I mean we're only two days in. It's really winter as a whole that bums me out.

But February does bring us a month closer to spring, so that's one for the plus column. I was also married in February. Thrifty two years ago...in 24" of snow.

My husband will celebrate his birthday this month.

And who isn't excited for Valentine's Day, if only for the crafts and the chocolate?

I guess the biggest reason to welcome February with a smile, is that it's not January.

My goodness that was a long month.

And a brutal one at that. We went for a walk on Saturday and I swear I thought my eyeballs were going to freeze in my head. Negative temps are honestly too much for me to handle.

There was also tons of snow. Nineteen inches in one day and the harbor has been frozen for weeks.

Of course, there were high points.

I made a few fun crafts, including:

I also cooked up a storm and I have to say, I didn't hate it.

I even tried a few new recipes. I surprised myself with that one.

These lemon bars were amazing and this recipe for homemade biscuits paired perfectly with my beef stew. So good.

Of course, not great for my waistline, but I'm working on it. In January, I added a burst of running at the end of my walks. Nothing too taxing, just 2 or 3 minutes. It's taken my back a little bit to get used to, but overall, I like it.

Let's see, what else? Oh, I know. I I started crocheting a lap blanket. Not easy, for sure, I spent more time ripping than I did stitching, but it's coming along nicely thanks to a fabulously patient friend.

And Merry Christmas to me!

I completed my first holiday craft for the year. I decided to give those paint inlays one more try on an old sled. Definitely better this time around, but still not perfect.

I see more practice in my future.

Last on the list, I tried out all my Christmas presents and I love, love, love these four.

This inexpensive little number was probably the best gift I've received in the last decade. So helpful in the shower!

This sweater has kept me toasty on the coldest days. I now have it in several colors.

This mascara is the best I have ever used..and trust me I've tried them all. It's not cheap, but it's made a huge difference on my aging eyes, plus it washes away with water.

And this flower covered purse just makes me smile. It's the right size, lightweight and had a built in wallet. Easy.

So what's up for February?

Well, other than those few celebrations there's nothing big going on around here.

I'm hoping the snow melts soon, but I'm not holding my breath. Especially since Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning.

I'll definitely be hitting the thrift stores. I'm on the hunt for a few more brass candlesticks. They're so hard to find for a decent price.

I have several simple DIYs to share.

And I hope to craft a whole bunch more.

With some of my favorite old movies playing in the background.

If I'm going to be stuck in the house, it may as well be with some old familiar friends.

😉

How will you be spending February?

Stay Warm, Friends!

  2. Really nice post, Kim. I love the way the Christmas tree turned out on the sled. It's perfect! What fun gifts you got and have used! When your mascara runs out, try Thrive Tubing Mascara. It's about the same price and they run discounts every now and then. It is the best I have ever used and I love the way it coats the lashes. My grandgirl turned me on to it.

Been a crazy week around here prepping for hubby to come home from assisted living. Dreading the move in mess...but...it is what it is...right? xo Diana

  3. Happy Anniversary!
I'm with you about February - thankful we are one month closer to Spring. I really enjoyed seeing the area you live in. It's so pretty, even though it's cold. I've been thinking I need to go to Lake MI to check out the ice, but it's just been so awful outside...
I love how the sled turned out.
I also enjoyed seeing your Christmas gifts. That sweater is gorgeous! Does it fit true to size? I may have to order it too.

    1. Hi Mari! Thanks so much and yes, the ice is pretty, but there’s just too much of it. It’s amazing how low the temperatures have been. I wouldn’t be going outside to take pictures, either! The sweater has kept me very warm, and yes, very true to size...even runs a little large so you can layer a turtleneck underneath!! Stay warm!!
