Let me count the ways.
Um, actually, maybe that's not the best way to play this game.

You see, I'm not really a fan.
In my neck of the woods, it's generally too cold, too dark, too snowy and I feel too crunchy and dry all over.
Although, to be fair, that's not really February's fault, I mean we're only two days in. It's really winter as a whole that bums me out.
But February does bring us a month closer to spring, so that's one for the plus column. I was also married in February. Thrifty two years ago...in 24" of snow.

My husband will celebrate his birthday this month.
And who isn't excited for Valentine's Day, if only for the crafts and the chocolate?
I guess the biggest reason to welcome February with a smile, is that it's not January.
My goodness that was a long month.
And a brutal one at that. We went for a walk on Saturday and I swear I thought my eyeballs were going to freeze in my head. Negative temps are honestly too much for me to handle.
There was also tons of snow. Nineteen inches in one day and the harbor has been frozen for weeks.

Of course, there were high points.
I made a few fun crafts, including:

- A set of adorable upcycled pin cushions
- A tattooed glass jar for decor
- A rose covered thrift store vase
- A flower covered wooden swan makeover and
- I brought a hand me down table back to life
I even tried a few new recipes. I surprised myself with that one.
These lemon bars were amazing and this recipe for homemade biscuits paired perfectly with my beef stew. So good.

Of course, not great for my waistline, but I'm working on it. In January, I added a burst of running at the end of my walks. Nothing too taxing, just 2 or 3 minutes. It's taken my back a little bit to get used to, but overall, I like it.
Let's see, what else? Oh, I know. I I started crocheting a lap blanket. Not easy, for sure, I spent more time ripping than I did stitching, but it's coming along nicely thanks to a fabulously patient friend.
And Merry Christmas to me!
I completed my first holiday craft for the year. I decided to give those paint inlays one more try on an old sled. Definitely better this time around, but still not perfect.
I see more practice in my future.

This inexpensive little number was probably the best gift I've received in the last decade. So helpful in the shower!
This sweater has kept me toasty on the coldest days. I now have it in several colors.
This mascara is the best I have ever used..and trust me I've tried them all. It's not cheap, but it's made a huge difference on my aging eyes, plus it washes away with water.
And this flower covered purse just makes me smile. It's the right size, lightweight and had a built in wallet. Easy.
So what's up for February?
Well, other than those few celebrations there's nothing big going on around here.

I'm hoping the snow melts soon, but I'm not holding my breath. Especially since Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning.
I'll definitely be hitting the thrift stores. I'm on the hunt for a few more brass candlesticks. They're so hard to find for a decent price.
I have several simple DIYs to share.
And I hope to craft a whole bunch more.
With some of my favorite old movies playing in the background.
If I'm going to be stuck in the house, it may as well be with some old familiar friends.
😉
How will you be spending February?
Stay Warm, Friends!

Hi Friend,
ReplyDelete32 years ... that is a blessing. Congratulations.
Happy Birthday to your husband, handyman, and the one who makes me laugh with his comments you share here on the blog. ;-)
Looking forward to what you find thrifting.
Carla
Hi Carla!! Thanks so much, what a sweet comment. I appreciate all the happy wishes and I'll be sure to pass them along to my handyman! 💕 Stay warm!!
DeleteReally nice post, Kim. I love the way the Christmas tree turned out on the sled. It's perfect! What fun gifts you got and have used! When your mascara runs out, try Thrive Tubing Mascara. It's about the same price and they run discounts every now and then. It is the best I have ever used and I love the way it coats the lashes. My grandgirl turned me on to it.
ReplyDeleteBeen a crazy week around here prepping for hubby to come home from assisted living. Dreading the move in mess...but...it is what it is...right? xo Diana
I’ve seen the Thrive mascara on Instagram, Diana. I will definitely check it out, it looks really good and I’m all for a discount!! I’m sorry to hear that the move prep has been tough. I know how hard this is and will be…I am thinking about you my friend. ❤️
DeleteHappy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you about February - thankful we are one month closer to Spring. I really enjoyed seeing the area you live in. It's so pretty, even though it's cold. I've been thinking I need to go to Lake MI to check out the ice, but it's just been so awful outside...
I love how the sled turned out.
I also enjoyed seeing your Christmas gifts. That sweater is gorgeous! Does it fit true to size? I may have to order it too.
Hi Mari! Thanks so much and yes, the ice is pretty, but there’s just too much of it. It’s amazing how low the temperatures have been. I wouldn’t be going outside to take pictures, either! The sweater has kept me very warm, and yes, very true to size...even runs a little large so you can layer a turtleneck underneath!! Stay warm!!
DeleteOh, my goodness, I'm with you. Not a fan of the extreme cold and happy to say goodbye to January. It was a MONTH. I have loads of projects to work on - I'm hoping February brings all of us peace and a chance to breathe.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Gina and I'm hoping for the same kind of peaceful February. Warm would be nice, too, but I'm not counting on that! 😉
DeleteI enjoyed seeing your winter pictures Kim. You sure have a lot of snow (we have little to none here). I do love January - it is a month of rest for me and I love to watch it snow (we've not gotten much lol) I always love to see your crafts! You amaze me with all the things you come up with. Happy anniversary to you and your husband! And Happy Birthday to him too! You will have fun celebrating those in February! I love your heart wreath. I'd like to make one soon from handsewn hearts. Thanks for the great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny that this year we've got more snow than you. That almost never happens!! Thank you for all your sweet wishes! Lots of cake over here in February, that's for sure. I love your plan to make a heart wreath with handsewn hearts. I just know it'll be beautiful!! Stay warm!!
DeleteThat pretty much sums up how I feel about February too! LOL. Our January sounds much like yours. You know it's a bit odd when today's temps in the 20's felt oh so warm!
ReplyDeleteI agree!! It's been almost 30 here the past two days and being outside has been a joy! Haha!
DeleteLOL I loved seeing February because that meant January was over just like you. I cannot wait for Spring. Happy Anniversary to a truly special couple. Wishing you many more. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kris! I'll pass your sweet wishes on to my other half...and yes, I can't wait for spring either!! It's 30 degrees here today and it feels so warm, which just proves how cold it's been. Unfortunately, we're heading back toward lower temps this weekend, but for now, I'm enjoying what we have!! Happy Wednesday!! ❤️
DeleteHappy Anniversary and Happy Birthday to your husband. February is tough month and I don't know what to think about that pesky groundhog and his predictions. I guess we'll just have to stay inside and be creative until it warms up!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ann!! That groundhog…grrr…he’s not helping, but yes, it doesn’t give me more times to get creative! Hope it’s warmer in your neck of the woods!!
DeleteHappy anniversary Kim. The winter photos are lovely. You have received some lovely gifts. So glad crafting keeps you busy. Your projects are darling.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda!! So many sweet words. 💕 The weather is definitely feeding the creativity since I'm stuck inside staring at my supplies! I hope you enjoy the week!
DeleteThat's a lot of snow! Hope it warms up a bit there so you can enjoy this fun and festive month! Happy anniversary and stay warm! Can't wait to see what creative craft projects you will bring to life!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donna...and yes SO much snow!! It's definitely kept me inside crafting which has been the silver lining!
DeleteHappy Anniversary.
ReplyDeleteThe good thing about February is it's shorter than January and nearer to Spring :)
Here in the UK we've been experiencing wet weather with quite a few areas experiencing flooding.
Definitely roll-on Spring.
All the best Jan
Seems like we're all counting down, Jan! Apparently, it's been brutal all over the globe. Here's to spring!
DeleteHappy Anniversary Kim. I hope you and your husband go out a do something fun to celebrate! I can't believe how cold and snowy this winter is and more snow and cold weather on the way. I'm so over it and can't wait for spring. You've done a lot of crafting to keep yourself busy. I received the Thrive cosmetics tubbing mascara for Christmas and I like the way it make my lashes look so thick and long. Take care and stay warm Kim.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie! It's been so cold. I have been crafting a lot, because it's more fun than leaving the house. You're the second person who recommended the Thrive mascara. I need to check that ouu, thanks for letting me know it's great!
DeleteLove your wedding picture of you two lovebirds 💕 Happy 32 years of marriage!
ReplyDeleteI was engaged on Valentine’s Day and February is my birth month.
I’m going back to look at your favorite gifts. 😊
Thank you so much, Kitty!! Sounds like February is a fun month for you, too!! Happy Birthday, my friend!! 💕
DeleteWowza. That is a lot of snow!!!!!!!!!! I am also glad for February! It is a shorter month and that means I will be hitting the hiking trails and waterfall chasing.
ReplyDeleteSo much snow, Chrissy!! I would love to be walking on a trail and waterfalls sound lovely!!
Delete19 inches is a lot of snow! Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much and yes, tons and tons of snow!! C'mon spring!! 🌺
DeleteWhat a crazy, cold winter we are having! We are getting a bit of a temperature increase but still below our normal! Makes me looong for spring!
ReplyDeleteMe too, Deanna...it's been a long winter! 🥶
