Is March A Lion Or A Lamb

When I was teaching kindergarten and first grade, the daily calendar activities were very important business.

So much could be taught in those precious morning moments.

From reading, writing and math.

To the all important topic of weather.

Lots to unpack there...especially in March.

Like the old saying goes, it's often in like a lion and out like a lamb.

And already on day two, March has been a bit of both.

Yesterday the sun was shining and there was a tiny air of spring. I even saw a few crocus buds poking through the ground, next to the mounds of snow.

But it was cold and there were flurries in the early morning hours.

The rest of the week looks just as wacky.


Ah March.

I'm fine with a little uncertainty though when it involves temps in the 60s! That's much better that the predictably frigid and snowy weather February delivered.

And yes, that's the beach, most of what you see is usually water...not ice.


That's ok.

The cold gave me tons of time for indoor pursuits.

• I made a clock for the first time from an old tin lid
• I added shrink wrap insulation to our drafty windows
• I shared a beginner sewing project

I would've liked to have crafted more, but my husband and I came down with colds, just in time for our anniversary and Valentine's Day. We celebrated both snuggled up on the couch, with his and hers tissue boxes.

So romantic.

Once I felt better, I did spend some time in the thrift stores...but friends. Believe it or not, for the first time in forever, I didn't buy a thing.

There were lots of pretties, but I don't truly need anything and nothing cried out for a makeover.

And to be honest, everything was so expensive.

Like these brass candlesticks. $59 for the pair.

 
Yes, they are solid and this shop was more vintage than thrift, but yowza. Not for me.

I also continued to lean into my newfound interest in cooking.

I'm perfecting my technique with phyllo dough when making my mother's squash pie.


I've also used phyllo dough to make my chicken pot pie. 

And I made my own pie crust for my quiche.


Who is this girl? I used to hate to cook.

I suppose there's a season for everything and now that I'm no longer rushing between carpool drop offs and pickups, proofreading homework essays and running kids to practice, those late afternoon hours are a bit freer.

And with an old movie playing (<-- these are some of my all time favorites) in the background, cooking has become a joyful task.

For now anyway.


We'll see how long this lasts. 😉

In addition to getting outside more this month, weather permitting, I do have a long list of crafty things I'd like to accomplish.

Including add some spring accents to my home...mostly budget friendly DIYs.

However, I've rounded up a list of things I already bought and a few that are on my wish list. You can peek here if you'd like to see them.

As I said, I don't need much, by March is my birthday month and the mister just might need a few hints.

I'd like to decorate for Easter and bring out my bunny plates again. They're just so happy.

My friend Carol shared the most beautiful spring front door decorations last week and now I want to make a new wreath for my own.

Of course, I'll be doing all these things with one eye on the weather.

Hoping that lion is tired from all the roaring he's been doing this season so far.

Allowing the lamb to nudge his way into my neck of the woods.

While Mr. Lion takes a nap.

For a good long time.
