Easy Triple Wreath Door Hanger

December 02, 2013

Make an easy, DIY triple wreath door hanger, in minutes, to dress your front door for Christmas. Or use this technique to make one for any season.

Use boxwoods or floral bases and let your imagination run wild!

It's time for another super simple decor project.

And this one's for Christmas. The most wonderful time of the year!

I adore everything Christmas and I really enjoy decorating for the holidays.

However. I don't like complicated projects and, as much as I want the house to look fabulous, I refuse to spend a lot of dough.
I've always liked the look of  those triple wreaths they have in fancy catalogs.

They're usually pre-lit and are super pricey.

Now, I change my mind about decor way too much to pay a lot for anything, so every year, I pass and toss the catalogs in the garbage.

HAVE YOU SEEN SOME OF MY OTHER WREATHS?

This year, however, after seeing a pretty pin from 5th and State, I decided to make my own and it much simpler than I thought.

To decorate my living room, I always hung three small, embellished wreaths in my windows. I got them for a song and each December I've put them up, out of habit, in the same place, for almost ten years.

Yikes!

Of course, if you don't have three wreaths handy, you can pick them up very inexpensively. I've even seen them in a three pack.

If yours are unadorned, a few sale picks can jazz them up.

 (Pardon the old, blurry picture)

This year, I wanted a cleaner look in that room, so I decided to lace up my wreaths and hang them on the front door.

I cut three even lengths of ribbon, looped them around two wreaths and made a knot.

I hid it in the back, under the branches.

For a step by step tutorial with detailed pictures you can peek at my updated rustic triple wreath.

It honestly took me less time to string them together and put them on the door than it did to write this post.

I don't like over the door hangers, I find that my door never closes properly, so I used a magnet.

I love the way the wreaths look like they're floating in the center of the door.

I was going to use red ribbon, for contrast, but I had this candy cane stripe on hand and I think it looks sweet, subtle.

This project would look equally as sweet with berry wreaths, twig wreaths, even three wooden stars would look great looped together.

I made one with flowers for Valentine's Day.

The possibilities are endless.

I'm very happy with my project and my house is smiling now....is yours!

  6. Great job on the wreaths, Kim. They really make a festive statement on your white front door. I like your attitude about tossing the catalogs and making your own decorations. My feelings exactly. And it's fun to repurpose decorations one already has into a new use, just as you did. But my question is, what are you going to put in the windows this year, now that you snagged the wreaths? ;D

    1. Believe it or not Nancy, I may just leave them blank! I have made a beautiful wreath with a big bow and lights for the fireplace mantle and I think it may be too busy with anything on the windows...but it ain't over 'til it's over...so stay tuned!
