For Christmas 2022, I wrote a post where I explained how growing up, there was no theme for decor. I didn't even know what that meant. All I knew was that the boxes came out of storage, our beloved ornaments went on the trees, the red stockings with our glittered names were hung on the fireplace and the Santas were peppered around the house. In very predictable spots. Not much changed in our house from year to year. Was there really more to it than that? Apparently, there was.

In my childhood home, there was no such thing as too much Christmas.

It's that time of year again and while I know that many of you have been crafting for Christmas for weeks (or even months now), I just cannot get into the holiday mood until Thanksgiving dinner is done. Sometimes it's hard to capture that Christmas spirit. Every year isn't a great, but that's ok, it can still be good. And while I wrote these words in 2019 after my mom passed, I have a feeling that 2020 Christmas may feel the same way.  Christmas 2019 is a just a memory now and I have to admit, I feel a little bit sad. Choices in holiday decor set the mood of the room. This year, I was going for a more serene feel, I wanted simple, rustic cottage Christmas decor.    I love drama in decorating. I think that's why I'm so drawn to the color red, especially when it's coupled with the color white. The clean, bold palate created by the combination of those two specific hues, energizes me, yet calms me at the very same time.
