Use a dollar store vinyl faux tin ceiling tile and a wooden bunny cutout to create a sweet spring wreath to dress your front door and welcome Easter!

The countdown is officially on and, if Mother Nature behaves, spring should be hopping into my neck of the woods in about 13 days.

And I can't wait.

Now, normally, I don't rush the seasons. I enjoy taking them one at a time.

However.

Winter has never been my favorite time of year, so I figured it'd be okay to get a little jump on the new season.

And woo it a bit.

With a brand new wreath for Easter.

And spring!

The idea came to me on a recent trip to the dollar store

Even though there was snow outside, inside the aisles were filled with wooden cut outs, pastel colors, chicks and bunnies.

So I picked up a little wooden Easter rabbit cutout and thought I'd bring him home and paint him pink.

Then, as I was cruising around the store, letting my creative ideas percolate, I saw these vinyl stick tiles. You know the ones, they look like tin ceiling tiles.

This year, I've seen people crafting with them. Most recently, my friend Ann made the loveliest heart for Valentine's Day.

With that in mind, I grabbed one and some ribbon and went home to whip up a little spring.

How To Make A Spring Wreath With Dollar Tree Ceiling Tiles

I started by gathering my supplies.

I used a bunny cut out for Easter and spring. However, this craft can be adapted for any holiday. You would just cut your tin tile out in shape that's appropriate for the season.

St. Patrick's shamrocks, spring flowers, summer sailboats, fall leaves or apples, pumpkins, witch hats, snowmen, santas or stockings.

You get the idea...but for now, let's get back to that bunny.

The list of what I used:

Here's the step by step DIY.

Next up, I had to trace my bunny pattern on to the back of the tile.

And then I needed to very carefully cut it out.

Cutting Out Bunny Tracing

Once I had my pattern I was ready to attach my tile to my wooden cutout.

Now. The whole "just peel and stick" tag on the tiles, is a bit of a misnomer. You see, the tiles only have glue around the outside edges.

SO when you cut them up to make these kinds of projects, you're cutting away all the tacky parts. But honestly, I doubt that thin line would really hold this tile in place for the long haul anyway.

Instead, I loaded up a small foam square with glue and spread it all over the bunny.

Then I just lined up my tile with my cut out and pressed them together.

I decided to keep my strings at the top, so I placed them in a hollow part of the tile pattern. That way the twine wouldn't disrupt the glue.

Once the glue was completely dry, it was time to paint. I'm usually not a pastel kind of decorator.

I prefer the pop those deep crimson tones, but since I was making spring home decor, I decided to embrace the season's colors.

Painting A Pink Easter Bunny

I used two coats of chalk paint, since I had it on hand, but acrylic craft paint would work fine, too.

While it dried, I grabbed my handy dandy bow maker and the spool of dainty pink ribbon I picked up at the dollar store and made a huge, cotton candy colored bow.

I attached it to an old tulip wreath I had with the bow making wire. I then looped the string at the top of the bunny around several tulips and nestled his feet into the bottom of the wreath.

When I was done, I had a sweet kiss of spring ready to decorate my front door.

I took down my snowman and his pup and put Peter Cottontail in his place.

Isn't he darling?

That faux tin ceiling tile added a little bit of texture and old world charm to an otherwise plain wooden bunny shape.

Which is perfect for my old world cottage.

And I made it all for under five bucks.

Just in time for spring.

I need to see what I can use them to add texture too! The bunny wreath is adorable! We are hoping for spring to come here soon, but even as I write that, we have an approaching snow storm. But soon, yes spring will be here!

    1. Thanks so much! I have to say, I’ve seen them all over the internet, but never in the store. When the idea popped into my head, in the stick tile aisle, I had to visit two stores to track one down. They’re very popular!!
