Rustic Wooden Dollar Tree Easter Bunny Banner

Grab a package of wooden ornaments at the dollar store to make your own Easter bunny banner for spring.

It's a quick and inexpensive DIY craft that will add some rustic charm to your home in minutes.

Small Wooden Bunny Ornaments

Hippity, Hoppity Friends!

Easter's on its way.

And I've got one more spring decor craft to share with you before Peter Rabbit shows up.

It's a super simple, rustic bunny banner that I made with Dollar Tree wooden cut out shapes.

Now. Normally, I'm all about color when it comes to my decor.

It's no secret that I adore red and lately, inspired by the colors in my newly redecorated family room, I've been using a lot of green.

As a matter of fact, most of my Easter decor, this season has been very colorful, including:

And traditionally, when I've made banners for Easter, they've been super colorful, as well.

See. Color.

Lots of it.

However. A few years ago, I rustled up a wooden leaf banner for fall and hung it on my mantel. It truly made me swoon.

There was something very elegant about its simplicity. The way the leaves hung down and danced above the fire.

The way the natural wood tones complemented the hues in the large fireplace stones.

It was much different than the banners I'd made in the past, but it just fit with the beams on the ceiling and coordinated so well with the red and white living room decor that I've often thought of recreating the look for another season.

How To Make An Easter Bunny and Carrot Banner

Dollar Tree Carrot Ornaments

So when I was in Dollar Tree a few weeks ago and saw wooden bunny and carrot ornaments, I knew they'd be perfect and I grabbed them.

Here's how it all came together.

My DIY garland supplies:

I had the stain on hand from when we gave the mantel a makeover. I also had the twine. One package of each wooden shape was more than enough to string up one banner.

Wooden Bunny Banner Supplies

As a matter of fact, I was able to make two banners with mine.

I've included a list of supplies you can grab online, but it's clearly much cheaper to grab the ornaments at DT.

Step 1: Stain the wooden ornaments

I started by using a water base stain to cover each bunny and carrot. I wore gloves since it's a messy job, but the stain is washable with soap and water.

So if gloves aren't your thing, no worries.

I used a cloth applicator pad and gently coated each side of the wood and set it aside to dry.

The stain actually dried very quickly, almost as fast as I applied it, so I didn't have to wait for one side to dry before coating the other side.

Quick and easy. Love that.

Step 2: Lay out your pattern

I decided on a basic pattern for my banner. One bunny, then one carrot.

I did toy with the idea of using a random order or doubling the bunnies, but in the end I decided I liked the symmetry of a 1:1 presentation.

Step 3: String up the banner

I had a very thin twin on hand, so that's what I used. You could use something fancier if you like, but since I was going for a muted, rustic aesthetic, twine was perfect.

The only problem with it, was that it frayed easily at the ends, so threading it through the tiny pre-drilled holes in the bunnies and carrots was tough.

To fix this, I thread the twine through an upholstery needle.

Then I used the needle to string up the banner.

When I was all done, I had a lovely, rustic wooden Easter bunny, and carrot, banner.

It was just as elegant as I'd hoped it would be.

And even without a colorful banner, my living room was bursting with spring flair.

Easter flair.

And ready to greet Peter Cottontail.
